Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

I seem to have completely missed this thread when I first signed up. I shall now rectify my mistake and proceed to give a big hearty hello!

...Hello.

*Ahem* Now that greetings are out of the way, let's all have some fun. Hoping to produce a proper NGE-related fanfic for everyone to enjoy in the next few days, so wish me luck!

All joking aside was coming back something you'd been thinking about for awhile or was it more spur of the moment? You've been gone long enough I'd have thought we would have become little more then a distant memory to you. Something you would have very little connection to anymore, if any at all.

The Master's thesis that I worked on during the course of the ban was in part dedicated to Episode 22 and a revisit and continuation of the initial analysis I had set out here -- and good lord I feel aged by saying this -- 7 years ago. It tracks the evolution of montage theory & use from early 1910s Japanese cinema to present-day. A lot of my early filmfagging with Jimbo about Rashomon was something I revisited in the process as well. I identified NGE's Episode 22 as the peak development of the form and was a ticket for me to get into a Ph.D program and an instructorship at my college + publishing in two journals.

At this point, the college has first publishing rights for those, so once we put out the quarterly in April, I'll link the thesis here. I'm excited to see the community's response.

My current postgrad studies are a further assessment of Anno's work but the text at this stage is a bit more pointed towards developing some analysis points on anime directors (and animators, generally) who move towards live-action projects in their later career (Anno's Love & Pop, Mamoru Oshii's forays into live-action, etc.) -- and how their formal experience in animation may or may not impact their technical preferences as live-action directors. Plenty of the old Film Subforum Pink Eiga discussion crossover there, too. So again, this stuff always brings me back to Evangelion, and of course -- back here. Mostly with fond memories.

EDITS: I realize that all that waffling didn't answer your actual question: I had considered it for at least a month or so prior to sending the message to the staff. But the habit of me visiting even after my ban was something that I periodically.

So what you're saying is there was never any real chance you'd forget about us.

I like that your work here had a positive impact on your life while you were gone. I know there was a fair bit of fire being thrown back and forth before you left so it's good to know you were able to build something from it.

So for about a month. Anything in particular spur you on to decide to try to come back or was it more like it just felt like the right time?
