Ok, so technically they already are military vehicles. But I can't stop thinking 'what if' the Eva's were simply tanks or battleships?

I guess we have Eva-303 to blame for this. XD

If Eva-00 was a tank, it'd be a Type 90 Kai, no question.

Unit 01 would be a Challenger 2 (just coz).

Unit 02, duh! A Leopard 2 what else?

03 and 04 would be Abrams.

In this universe I've diverged from the original, NERV is still a paramilitary corporation, but it's more mercenary in nature, so they have a 'budget' so to speak.
I'm not going to go into full details, mainly because this is the wrong forum.

Well...if thinking of the Evas as military vehicles (like, VEHICLES, not cyborgs), what is the nature of their opposition? Still Angels? And if so, how would something like a regular vehicle be able to go toe-to-toe with them?

Way I see it, the ship EVA's are command and control. They house the entry plugs. There's still a crew and the ship is still able to be a normal ship. Under plug control, speaks for itself. All other EVA's need ship unit to be operational, so if Sea Unit 03 was destroyed, Aerial Unit 03 wouldn't work, but Aerial Unit 01 would.

If you see what I mean.

As for the opposition... Still not quite sure. Ammunition is how they fight, Lance-Enhanced munitions. Figure that one out.

The word you're looking for is "Evas". It's a plural, not a possessive. No apostrophe.
