Based on available information, if I had to choose between the two, I would buy a PS4.

I don't give a shit about the Kinect. I refuse to pay an extra $100 for a peripheral I will never use.

I don't care about going online ever 24 hours, but what happens in 20 years? Will I still be able to play my old games?

Moreover, will I even be able to collect and play old games years from now?

The DRM makes the lifespan of the games very doubtful. And I've seen absolutely nothing that makes me want to play it. Everything I'm interested in is going to be on PS4 in one form or another.

But in all honesty, I'm getting a Wii. Going to flesh out that part of my library until the first major pricedrop for PS4.

The only thing that could sway me towards an Xbox One at this point is if MS paid your ISP for the rest of your life. I'm a racing game fan, and having seen what the PS4 is offering in that department, I'll probably get around to buying one in late 2014.

KH3 and FFXV are coming to XBONE, I guess Square needs the money to recoup for the recent losses. I hope Dead Rising 3 isn't a permanent exclusive and eventually makes its way to PS4.

I was a bit unsure if I was going to be buying a PS4 but the press conference sold me on it yesterday, I won't be buying it day one though, I'll just wait till there are games out that I want to play before getting it.

i remember when the PS3 came out there was a Motorstorm bundle - i'm not really one for racing games, but damn that was an excellent game... reminiscing makes we wish i'd gotten a PS3

Besides the N64, I have never bought a console at launch and most launch titles will be available to PS3/360 anyway, so I'm in no rush to get one.

A well informed comment from the thread (a rare case, indeed).

Badly worded, but here's the big difference between Sony and Microsoft here.

Microsoft, "PROVIDED," the infrastructure to block used game sales. In fact, that was the default for the X-Bone, and publishers had/have to go out of their way to enable people to re-sell games even once.

Sony, is providing no such support for such a model. If a publisher WANTS to do this, they'll have to build the infrastructure and methodology for blocking used games, themselves. That is simply going to be above most publishers capabilities. EA, and Activision, MIGHT be able to pull it off, but it'd be a big investment even for them. Ubisoft could conceivably, but if its a big project for EA and Activision, it'll be an even bigger project for them.

I think its more likely we'd see a return to online passes for the PS4, than outright used game blocking. That requires far less of an investment, so, it'd be easier to pull off. Really, its no different than the PS3 however, seeing as publishers could conceivably do this there as well.

EA is dropping online passes, just so you know. Of course they might be designing something to replace it, but with it concerned about its own image right now, due to being voted the worst company in America twice, they might be treading carefully.
