This is for the non-Eva goings on at Gainax, both old and new.

I'm not really sure where to put this, but for now, I just recently came across one of the ten omakes created for Nadia, and according to [s]Spanish[/s] [really French] subtitles, Anno directed [edit: really credited for playing the director. See below for info on who did what on this, along with the rest of the omakes] this particular one, so naturally, I thought I'd share.

Omake 7

That ending surprised me. I thought I had seen all of these but if I have I didn't remember that. The caveman bit and opening title is inspired by Hajime Ningen Gyatorz. Put はじめ人間ギャートルズ in Google image search to see what I mean.

I'm pretty this is part of Nico video that has all of these omakes so this shouldn't be too obscure.

There's another omake, with a certain style, that eerily foreshadows what Gainax will later do with Evangelion ep 25 and 26, but alas, no one is credited for working on it, so I have no idea if it's actually Anno's idea. Nevertheless...

I remember seeing one of these Omakes once a long time ago. Just what were they produced for anyway? Were they little shorts scattered among Japanese TV commercials at the time?

And, that's him of course towards the end.

Fuckin' Anno with his hipster sunglasses, beret, and crazy-ass shirt.
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

And so we arrive at demagogy. - Hideaki Anno, 1996

Yes these were made for the LD/VHS release.

The director credit at the end of the seventh episode is actually a casting credit identifying Anno as the director featured in the episode.

Wikipedia (jp) have the credits for these episodes. All episodes were written by Anno, Tsurumaki and Hiroshi Yamaguchi. Anno was the director while Tsurumaki was always the episode director. Maeda was in charge of the opening.

Storyboard for each episode
1. Shoichi Masuo
2. Akio Satsukawa
3. Takeshi Mori
4. Shinji Higuchi
5. Kazuya Tsurumaki
6. Mahiro Maeda
7. Masayuki
8. Shinji Higuchi
9. Shunji Suzuki
10. Takeshi Mori

Each episode was done by a one animator and one background artist. Notably Takeshi Honda was the animator for ep 8.

^Knowing this, I went ahead and update the opening post a bit. Thanks a bunch for the enlightenment.

I'm surprised I was nearer to the truth about who did what (i.e. the title actually making sense) than I initially thought I did. It'll be great if we can get translations of the credits for all 10, or at least get a majority, but I'm not holding my breath.

Those're a little amusing. (Aren't those subtitles French, not Spanish?)

Omake 7 for some reason made me think of Asuka.

Omake 9 is interesting for the use of telops. So how far back do Anno and telops go? There weren't any in the DAICON videos of course but I can't remember whether any appeared in, say, Gunbuster.

Noted.

There were a few in Gunbuster (definitely in episode 6), but in the way used in the omake? I don't think so...

Telops are all over Japanese television and Anno's own love for them by all indications comes from Space Battleship Yamato and that Oshima's Okinawa film, former of which he's been acuinted with since teenage and latter of which at least since the time he made Gunbuster*

*actually Gunbuster ep 6's usage of them was direct homage to Battle of Okinawa IIRC
