Any ideas about how and why Asuka's left eye under the eyepatch is glowing blue, while her right eye is glowing green? And why the blue light is such a tiny pinprick compared to her anime-character size iris?

[SPOILERS] Asuka's Left Eye in 3.0
There's been enough discussion about this for it to merit its own thread IMO. basically discussion revolves around this image:
Any ideas about how and why Asuka's left eye under the eyepatch is glowing blue, while her right eye is glowing green? And why the blue light is such a tiny pinprick compared to her anime-character size iris?

The image is so low-res, Shinoyami, it wouldn't hurt to resize it.
Also worried that over-specializing into an "Asuka's left eye" thread means leaving something borderline spoiler in a thread title. ("Yes, Asuka's eye does something in 3.0 worthy of being discussed.")

Eyepatch speculation has been going on since the :3 pic at the end of 2.0, so it's no surprise we'd be speculating still. The current title rev should be fine.
Also, Pattern Blue, anyone.

Purty much this. It could be a blue herring, Anno could be fucking with us, but I wouldn't bet on that. I think it's pretty clear, between this and the pain in her eye during the 6 minute preview, Anno's trying to tell us something, presumably involving the Bardiel incident and possible corruption. Now, how that plays out in Final is anyone's guess, but I'd wager it'll be a plot element. Of all the mysteries left in Rebuild this one is probably the safest bet on getting explained.

- The Code 4B Angel was focusing light into Eva-02's eyes.
- Eva-02 only has biological eyes on the left side. (Right side has a cybernetic implant replacing the part of the head lost in the 10th Angel fight.)
- As a result, Asuka is only affected via synch in her left eye.
And that's it. The chaotic bubbling has been a standard sign of "vicarious Eva battle damage" since 1.0.

Hmmm, that makes sense. I still think she's got a little angel in her, though.

Yeah, I resolutely believe that the blue-glowing beserk eye must symbolise... Something. And I am determined to thwart the "eye-patch makes green iris magically turn blue and become smaller" argument at every turn. I mean, there has to be something under that eyepatch she doesn't want people to see, otherwise why wear an eyepatch? And it's not like she lost an eye, otherwise where is the blue glow coming from?

The blue light is much smaller than the eye socket, and I think it'd be a bit weird if Beast Mode made the inside of her head glow in the dark. One of the weird things about the light is that it's too small compared to Asuka's eye. On a side note, I think that maybe the way the 04B Nemesis Series happens to attack that eye might be meant to tell us "This is important!" by showing a scene of it glowing at the beginning of the film, before it starts glowing for real towards the end of the film. The real reason for 04B attacking that eye is probably what Reichu stated above, but the two scenes are linked by the glowing eye, as well as being on opposite sides of the film.

- Mari enters Beast Mode. Both of her irises glow green.
- Asuka enters Beast Mode. Her right iris glows green, similar to Mari.
- As for the left: something at approximately the location of Asuka's pupil is putting out a fluorescent blue point of light.
- The discrepancy is clearly supposed to get our attention.
- Odds are we are supposed to connect this to the fluorescent blue Angel that Asuka had a close encounter with, and not get mired in the technicalities of what wavelengths of light her eyepatch absorbs.

Also i wanna point out that Asuka doesn't seem able to close it.
When she ejects and says "sorry 02 " etc she closes only one eye, it seems she can't controll it ?
Or maybe that part of her face is so deformed that shes got no more eyelids.
