There's gonna be quite a lot of bawling in the theaters when the movie ends with this song. The first showing ends in about 40 minutes!

huh, that was unexpectedly decent. Songwriting's nothing special but Utada's vocals really carry the song well. Nice.
I can imagine it fitting 3.0 credits very well
ran1: Oh gosh this sentence gave me an internet boner. You're so tsundere.
Mugwump: Goddamn it, Xard! Take me in your arms, you magnificent sex god bastard! And don't forget to wear the Ran mask.
Eva Yojimbo: You really are the Otaku equivalent of a Catholic and Jew rolled up into one giant dakimakura of guilt.
Gob Hobblin: Sanctimonious, subtly racist, vaguely misogynist, somehow says something while at the same time saying...nothing, really, at all....
Nice, Xard. That's nice.

I found it boring. Note: This is true of almost all music I have ever listened to on its own. One consistent pattern I have noticed throughout my life is that I only like music once it's been associated with other experiences. E.g., I didn't care one whit for Ode to Joy till Evangelion. So how this song is used in the movie, if at all, will likely change my opinion.

Let's voice our unpopular opinion in this case, it really didn't say much to me either. Personally I already cared for Ode to Joy and other classical pieces used in Eva but effectively it was because I already associated them to something since I was a kid (for example Ode to Joy is the European Hymn).

So let’s make a wish.

The entire continent has a hymn? Are you talking about the EU?

It was good as far as J-Pop songs go, but I prefer Cruel Angel's Thesis and Komm Susser Tod (I'm still hoping one or both of those will show up in 4.0). Then again, if it's used well i could come to appreciate it more.

I always thought I might be bad
Now I know that it's true
Because I think you're so good
And I'm nothing like you

I think a reworked Cruel Angel's Thesis is possible, but I feel like we might only hear small clips of Komm Susser Todd.

I don't care much for Japanese music, but the latter half of the song was intense enough that I liked it.

I'm hoping they use "Everything you ever dreamed", even though the chances of that happening are next to impossible.

The songwriting isn't anything special or too memorable IMO - I've listened to song three times and no hint of melody remains in my memory and the production is kind of stereotypically mushy and overblown. Still, I can imagine it fitting the ED credits well in terms of mood and Utada's vocals are convincing and sell the song for me.
But really, no innate love for 9th Symphony even? Maybe in your case it's just that you're unusually unmusical person or something

I think the song is absolutely amazing, such a beautiful video to go with it, although it seems to me like it is sung in a dark way ( i really can't speak much Japanese other than a few basic phrases), so it seems to me like something happens in the film to warrant such a "dark" closing song.
(Mere Speculation at this point of course ;) )

Oh my god, I'm almost tearing up just THINKING about what this song is going to play after. I'm SO scared to watch 3.0 now....
