Well the raw of the OVA is out. I don't know how long it will take for it to be subbed but it seems to be really enjoyable from the looks of it.

Wait, I thought your Japanese was pretty good. Or do I just think that because you always post people's translations? My moon's pretty dreadful, but I just watched it and could understand more than enough to enjoy it.

It was fun. Lots of action, surprising amount of domination from the Duck Team, neat side story involving Takako – I mean Caesar – the CG was kind of lacking in some of the moving terrain shots, but at least they were exciting and dynamic. I think episodes 11 and 12 are still the best of the series. Looking forward to what the movie serves up.

There were lots of little touches I liked. Miho visits the Hippo Team and gets served tea in a normal mug while the rest have personalised ones; there's a brief scene with Nekota before she joins the club (for a second I forgot this was set during the series' midpoint and thought they were all being massive twats to her and ignoring her for no reason); Momo is still a dreadful shot; Pepperoni gesticulates to a ridiculous degree for more than half a minute and I'm pretty sure tries to get Yukari to pay 3,000,000 yen for a plate of pasta. Speaking of which, there was a lot of food in this OVA. Anzio's theme is also apparently "Funiculì, Funiculà".

SPOILER: Show
Also, Yukari conducts another infiltration, everyone ditches Anchovy's strategy lecture to go get lunch, and we discover exactly why Anzio wasn't around to watch Oarai's match against Kuromorimine.

"Pretty good" lol. No, I think I could understand most of it but I'll be waiting for subs, I don't want to miss anything in this case. GuP doesn't come out every week anymore, may as well treat it like it's Christmas.

Subs are out!

Someone remind me who Anzio's first round opponent was, I'm assuming they also used tankettes then.

According to the OVA, "Maginot", so I'm guessing a French-styled team.

If there's one thing this OVA demonstrates, it's sheer futility of machine guns in an anti-tank role, except to piss off and distract the enemy crew. Maybe Anzio can't afford any medium tanks since those at least mounted a 47 mm main gun.

Cool wallpaper that Caesar has. Because of how they write it, I like how the name comes out as Kaiser in Japanese.

Checked out the dub version of OVA 4, the Anko Dance. If you value your ears, don't subject yourself to it in English.

I'm pretty sure they say it like that because it's the original Latin pronunciation. The word Kaiser did come from Caesar, too, at least according to Wiktionary.

The name is written in katakana as カエサル (Kaesaru). Coincidence or intentional? Czar too is derived from Caesar BTW.

The French team lost to the Italian team, who fielded tankettes. With no cannon. :???: That would be worth seeing.

Pepperoni makes it look easy.

Well, they transcribed the Latin pronunciation, same way Paris is パリ and not パリス. That a word that evolved from it is pronounced and thus transcribed the same way is more a logical result than a coincidence, I'd think.

GuP has done a collaboration HD remaster with the '70s Soviet WW II 5 film series Liberation. However the subs are in Japanese.

There are DVD covers and a poster (rehash of vol. 1 cover) featuring Pravda.

I would give the series a watch otherwise. Lol at Churchill in this shot though at Yalta.

It's a spin-off series that's by the same mangaka who did the GuP manga. The magazine also contains 2 Maginot characters:

Image
Image
meet Éclair and Fondue!

which brings me to some really interesting info about the schools that was recently released

SPOILER: Show
Image

Anzio

It seems Anzio was actually the first school to build a schoolship in Japan, re-purposing a merchant vessel.

Another point is that their current ship is a popular tourist attraction, which explains why students were able to make money running food stalls.

SPOILER: Show
Image

Maginot

Maginot was a girls-school created to teach wine-making, specialising in traditional techniques including juicing the grapes with your feet. And the reason they used a submarine as their schoolship was because supposedly the water pressure speeds up wine maturation.

Their tank doctrine is inflexible and rely on moving in groups. But their arts, film studies, and clothing design are highly creative. They also take their food very, very seriously.

It says they are trying to restore the ARL44, but they are short on budget and crews and it is not clear whether it'll become a useful combat capability (senryoku), so it is not progressing.

SPOILER: Show
Image

BC Freedom

BC Freedom is a COMBINE school of both BC and Freedom, when both schools have schoolships that are derelict and needed replacing. The government funding limits means the two schools were combined into one newer ship. But there was massive inter-school political fighting. The intention was to have one super-school but it was a massive failure and they ended up with the entire ship split in half, with the old Freedom school taking up Port side while the BC inhabit the starboard side.

This explains why their school emblem was confusing; it literally houses two factions!

It says they have a FCM, but it never shows in matches, so either it is considered old and not of practical value or they couldn't get it to work. More conventionally, they also have a Panther G (but in the little that runs in the same magazine, this does not show up for the match vs St. Glorianna, so it is also not operational ... apparently) and even a Valentine they got recently (again, didn't show up...)

It's funny how Maginot (which we thought represented France before the Battle of France) apparently has ARL44s and BC Freedom (which should be the equivalent of the Free French forces under de Gaulle) seems to have FCM F1s.

SPOILER: Show
Image

St. Gloriana's Girls Academy

It is a very famous and privileged school, with Senshado a major part of the school's culture. A lot of the school's funds came from alumnae donations, but that means the graduates ended up influencing tank selection. Thus conservative tank selections despite their wealth.

The school has very stringent selection process to even be enrolled. Students aim to become a part of the "Tea Garden" the building where the best of the best students in grades and behaviour, and trusted by all, given soul names of teas, gather.

After graduation the Tea Garden members join one of the three major factions of the alumnae organisations (can't read them, sorry.), and they run regular meetings to oversea how their school should be ran. Especially on how the next generation of Senshado leaders would be chosen.

In short, they are posh as hell.

SPOILER: Show
Image

Viking Fisheries High School

School culturally focus on equality, hard work, and cleanliness. Strangely the school's students all don't like talking very much, other schools consider VF school students rather odd and borderline mute. VF loves nature, and their school ship deck is covered in a huge forest. There is a huge section on their food choices, but I could only understand that they have salmon as their speciality. Also, the school doesn't charge the students any school fees.

The students are crazy about precision, especially on the issue of time. They plan their battle plans literally down to the second, and they train their tank crews to extreme levels of proficiency. Their battle plans are nut and gos into details on at the exact moment you were suppose to see your enemy, where on the enemy tank you are suppose to target down to the cm. But the problem is their plans simply fall apart in actual battles, and the tank crews don't know what to do when they can't follow their training anymore.

Preferred terrain is mountains and snow fields. At beach battles they prefer surprise attacking from the water, and they have tanks capable of moving across water for this purpose.

They used a mix of tanks from other schools, including the silly NbFz.
Recently they are discussing purchasing some M24 Chaffees.

SPOILER: Show
Image

Bonple High School

As for Bonple Girl's High School, Polish themed, the school is historically close to St Gloria and they have an active exchange program.

Their current tanks are all weak sauce peashooters. They have a strange selection of rare tanks including the 10TP, but no one knows how the hell they managed to get that one. Their current tactics are to use their mobility to attack their enemy, but their firepower is inadequate.
They actually have been in discussion with multiple schools in acquiring some tanks from them. Ironically the massive amount of choices means internal school factions cause breakdowns from negotiations. Especially the pro-St Gloria faction somehow managed to cause Black Forest to walk away from the deal. So they are still stuck with weak tanks just because they can't agree on what upgrades to purchase. (direct reference to the Liberum Veto)

Culturally the students have trouble making up their minds on anything. But they are hard working, polite, and in fact have the best chances in the country of going into the top universities. They love egg dishes, is famed for their senshado music band, and have equestrians competing at the international level.

SPOILER: Show
Image

Saunders

They are part of a large group of private schools from kindergarten to university. The school was originally a land school ran by Americans, for Americans, back in the old days and had a long history (I guess Anzio was still the oldest because Saunders was not a Japanese school in the beginning.)

The American population was later moved elsewhere and the school became fully Japanese once they built their first schoolship. Saunder still does exchange programs every year with actual American schools.

SPOILER: Show
Image

Yogurt Academy

Yoghurt Academy, based on Bulgaria, the agricultural school that specialises in dairy products. They started off with weak peashooters, but recently has expanded their arsenal to the surprise of their opponents. The schoolship dedicate most of the space to farms and ranches, and there are talks of converting tractors into tanks and tanks into tractors.
School culture revolves around "simplicity, thrift, hard work, endurance."
For the size of the schoolship, it imports massive amounts of hotsprings water on a regular basis.

SPOILER: Show
Image

Koala Forest High School

Mostly that they are very tactically flxible and have a very relaxed near non-existent hierarchy. They currently us the M3 series of tanks but is in discussion in getting some M4s.
Tactically they prefer the equivalent of cavalry charges, breaking up enemy formation. But if they are forced into a straight shootout they are surprisingly fragile. They pefer desert terrain, and are in good relation with Saunders. There is a whole section on food too. But I would need someone else to translate that.

I included some links and corrected the translation a bit. There is a second part for the rest of the schools in the next Senshado Magazine. Hopefully someone will scan that too.
