Australia Day

Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

Time to come out of the woodworks Aussie EvaGeeks and tell us what you got up to on Australia Day.

Me, I was at a mate's house drinking beer, listening to the Hottest 100, watching the cricket, playing Smash Bros. Brawl, and DOUBLE JENGA!

Fuck yeah, 'Stralya Day! Me and me mates chugged a few VBs and then glassed some poofters before we fed this gnarly bogan to a few ankle-biters covered in blowies. Then we clopped a grozzy little devotchka right in the groodies and jammiwammed our panhandlers right in her guttiwuts and had a bit of the old in-out-in-out with a koala.

I'm sorry, I don't know anything about Australia. I'll leave now.
"Now, from Nature we obtain abundant information about ourselves, and precious little about others. About the woman you clasp in your arms, can you say with certainty that she does not feign pleasure? About the woman you mistreat, are you quite sure that from abuse she does not derive some obscure and lascivious satisfaction? Let us confine ourselves to simple evidence: through thoughtfulness, gentleness, concern for the feelings of others we saddle our own pleasure with restrictions, and make this sacrifice to obtain a doubtful result." -The Divine Marquis

Supposedly they speak English. But this:

Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong,
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee,
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag

This is not English.

Isn't the upside-down thing a bit of a tired joke? I mean, we can say the same thing to any country in the southern hemisphere like South Africa or Argentina.

Because part of the continent is anchored above the equator. They've got something to hold onto

And Australians would also think: How do Americans, Canadians, British, Finns, Austrians, Spaniards, Italians, French, Croats, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Indians, Filipinos, Russians not fall of the Earth?

Honestly I've never heard of Australia Day. I guess I just listened to The Temper Trap and studied for exams

I only heard of it because our calendar has it on it.

It's kind of funny, it says "Australia Day (Australia)".

I had no idea calendar. I thought Australia Day would be celebrated in Poland.

Finally found some information about the aborigines reaction to the Australia Day, which some aborigines call "Invasion Day"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia_day#Invasion_Day
because the day, as wiki put it, is "the date [that] commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the proclamation at that time of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland."

Perhaps Jan 1 (Federation Day of Australia) or Apr 25 (ANZAC Day) is a more appropriate day for Australia to celebrate in the context of historical sensitivity.
