Yeah. You read right. This is for everything that doesn't have anything to do with Eva.

I'm closing a deal now to buy an Xbox 360. Off of Ebay. For $230 over MSRP (including shipping). From some guy in France. But the guy insists that he has an American system, so I asked for proof before the deal goes down. I'm such a nerd... guess I really wanted to play PGR3 during winter break... 8)

This is highly, highly suspect. I strongly suggest you read this before going on with the deal:

http://www.zug.com/pranks/powerbook/

Or, do the smart thing and just wait to buy the stupid system.

This is why I asked for proof in the first place. I don't want to be fooled. 8)

Well, let me add something. The premium 360 is $400 plus sales tax, right? Well, I had $105 in trade-in credit at Gamestop, which I blew on my copy of Project Gotham 3 ($50), a play-and-charge kit ($20), and a universal remote. ($30) That's $100 of stuff that I didn't pay for (I used said trade-in credit), so technically, I paid $530 for the 360. Also, I have a $20 Amazon.com gift certificate (I got it as a thank you for participating in an online survey), and I plan on using it on a $20 faceplate (the Hot Rod one looks cool... 8) ), so now the price paid is $510. Now, I'm also putting the finishing touches on a deal where I'm selling my copy of NASCAR Racing 2003 Season for the PC to someone in Virgina for $70. Apparently, NRS2K3 is a pretty hot commodity in the sim racing community... 8) So, deduce the $10 I need to pay for shipping and insurance, and I'll have $60- enough for a copy of Ridge Racer 6 that I have my eyes on. Yes, I'm getting two racing games for my 360. 8) Now, then... that's $450 I spent total. I should note now that the sales tax for Florida, where I live, is about 6 percent, so 0.06 times 400... that's $424 for the premium Xbox 360 pack after taxes. Sooo... that's a $26 difference. How do I make that up? Well, a three-month Xbox Live Gold card is $20, and a one-month card is $8... there ya go. All I need is some Christmas money, and the difference is made up! Twisted logic? Perhaps. But it does put things into perspective... 8)

Ever hear of something called opportunity cost?

Anyway, the difference really isn't made up since you could spend that money elsewhere should you pay list price for the 360. Not to mention the cost of shipping from France and getting through customs.

Of course, the last system I bought was the Dreamcast, when it dropped to $50, so priorities may vary. I wouldn't buy a 360 from anyone I couldn't meet in person right now, though -- the potential for scamming given the money involved is just too great.

So not worth it. Not even remotely. Exercise some restraint and wait for it to be available again. Think of all the awesome games you could buy with that money that you would spend buying it beyond its retail value.

I got a PS2 at launch, and as awesome as it was, I wouldn't have overpaid for one had I not gotten one.

People purposely buy these things and resell them to rip people off, don't let them.

Well talk about bad luck. I just found out that the auction was cancelled and that the seller's account was suspended. What a cheese eating surrender monkey...

So I am guessing that we have another economist on the boards.

Hey Ferrariman, I think he is trying to explain a Postive economic theory to you instead of a Normative economic theory

I'm hearing some interesting stories about people spending 500 bucks on ebay for an empty 360 box, and some other amusing stories about how the system crashes a lot.

Microsoft, will you ever learn?

I work at a video game store. The X360 sucks, skip it. The demo system we have freezes and crashes all the time. Not a single game on the system appeals to me at all. Just wait for PS3 or Revolution... At least the 360 controller can be plugged into a PC and used, so it isn't a complete waste in my eyes. Hurrah for new emulator controllers!
