Near 3I and parallels with EoE

[Great Genius Shinji-Sama]

Obviously 3I nearly happened in the end of 2.22, but does anybody else pick up on a parallel between Misato's encouragement to Shinji during the Zeruel battle and her speech to him at the elevator scene in EOE? It might just be me, but they sound kind of identical when I watch that clip and EoE.

In the sense that the second half of 2.22 takes a superspeed jaunt through Shinji's character eps 17-23 & 25' - yeah, you could say it's no coincidence for Misato to be making an impassioned but ultimately pretty futile speech in Shinji's direction at that point. The real callback to that scene though takes place earlier, disturbingly inverted, as he leaves the apartment: Misato and Shinji stand before a doorway again, she inarticulately tries to poke a hole in his stubbornness, he is far from convinced: but this time his back is to her, she's begging him to stay, and he's the one who wants to go.

That said, I don't think that either of these scenes mirror the developments in character that led Misato to make her 25' speech, but then again Misato doesn't particularly have a character in NME so far so maybe there's no hope for that.

I don't get what either of you are going on about. As far as I can tell, the 2..22 scene exists in isolation. Nothing like it really happened in NGE. If they wanted to draw some parallel, there would a common line of dialogue, or a visual clue. Misato isn't trying to coax Shinji into action, she cheering something he's already decided. I think the urge to label everything in Rebuild a callback should be avoided unless there's some really compelling connection.
