Do you mind the color of LCL?

The "Everyone turns to tang!" jokes are all well and good, but they kind of indicate that perhaps orange makes the beginning of Instrumentality a little hard to take seriously. I've seen some people express that sentiment, at least. I certainly don't think it's a big deal, but is there a color you think would have worked better? Red would have looked too much like blood, so no, but black/grey/white? Orange has a certain biological-but-alien feel that's fitting...

Well the color it is has always made me think the lcl tastes like sweet and sour sauce for some reason.

Well, I never had a problem with the color. The brightness makes me think of it as fresh and active (compared to the murky stagnated color it is in Rebuild). I imagine it would taste vaguely unpleasant but easy to adjust to and ignore.

Blood actually turns orange or yellow if you mix it with water, the shade depending on the mixture ratio.

Look here: the left pic shows the components of blood. The orange-ish stuff is blood plasma, the liquid with the cells filtered out.
The chemical makeup of the LCL in Shinji's entry plug changes after he dissolves, so i recon that the LCL used in the entryplug is somehow 'filtered' (There's a filtering system mentioned in ep 16), maybe to rid it of some components WITH those components, it's said to resemble the soup of life. Most of us tend to associate 'blood' and 'life'. The unfiltered LCL is 'real blood', and the filtered stuff is, in a way, just the plasma.
Or maybe they just wanted it to look like something blood related, but not obviously so.

Of course, it was still orange and not red when we were shown how it pour out of lillith, but this is most likely just so we recognize it's the same stuff. Or they just didn't take the analogy that far.
However, with all the 'biological' terms apearing in NGE, it's not that far a leap to assume that the color of LCL was at least inspired by blood plasma.

As for the taste: I always imagined it to be metallic (like blood) and slightly salty like tears.

I would have probably made it neon blue or something if I made the series but I like the orange, it stands out well.

I can't imagine it in any other color. Green, purple, pink, brown...ugh, this reminds me of various body fluids.

LCL just seems like it should be orange to me. If it was red, it would look too much like blood. If it was yellow, thats just setting the base for many innappropriate jokes (worse than the tang jokes).
Green, blue, purple, black, white ,(clear?), i feel none of those would work. I think that orange works best for what i feel LCL should look like.

Now seriously, isn't EVA-02 "Pattern Orange" or something like that when Kaworu got at her? And aren't the Evangelion cloned from Lilith? And isn't Lilith the ancestor of the human race? And could there some connection between the LCL color and the beings that carry that pattern?

Actually, the color of LCL does bother me, but only because it can't seem to make up its mind whether it's red or orange. Personally, I prefer orange.

Better than seeing Red. Orange is not a bad color for the use of LCL. It puts you in a calm state.
