Do we have profiles on famous eva related commentators? If not, do you think we need them?
The pros of this could be a better understanding of the landscape of eva fandom and hatedom. I would be glad to take it upon myself to do this with some assistance of other members. (I am after all starting classes again on Monday and will be hella busy.) Input please?

Like who?

If you're referring to people like Sean McCoy and Taliesin Jaffe, the Geektionary already provides succinct information about these people.

^I was thinking more something in depth. Of course we would add you and as much as a I hate to say it "V", but other famous people who made any big commentary on eva, their vital stats, significance of their comments, impact, reception, and any other relevant data. We should also dedicate whole pages to them. And we should be impartial and state just the facts. (Which will be hard for me considering my newly found mild dislike of "V".) Just simple analysis, but in depth.

Well what are the cons to this? Other than some of us having a trouble being impartial, its a good look at the landscape of the culture surrounding Evangelion. It shows the kind of people who talk about it, the different opinion, and how it affects the fandom.

This sounds like something that could too easily develop into a huge circlejerk. So, yeah, I'm very much against this.

Explain to me the concept of circle jerk.

Wait a minute, a circle jerk doesn't have to involve interpersonal contact? I always thought the whole point was that you stood in a circle and jerked off the guy next to you.
"Now, from Nature we obtain abundant information about ourselves, and precious little about others. About the woman you clasp in your arms, can you say with certainty that she does not feign pleasure? About the woman you mistreat, are you quite sure that from abuse she does not derive some obscure and lascivious satisfaction? Let us confine ourselves to simple evidence: through thoughtfulness, gentleness, concern for the feelings of others we saddle our own pleasure with restrictions, and make this sacrifice to obtain a doubtful result." -The Divine Marquis

That definition was more than I needed to know. Okay then, so nixing the idea of profiling "V", its a good idea right? A usable Idea?

Expanded information on people like AWL, Jaffe, and McCoy is probably a bad idea. We don't need to attract their attention.

Expanded information on "notable" fans like me is unnecessary, that's why we have self-maintained profiles:

For other people like "V" (aka Rudy Hartmann), no. He is not worth the effort, and the less that is said, the better. If everyone would just ignore him, he would just go away.

Some chloroform and a crate addressed to western china could help acheive that dream too.

But I get the gist of it, the less said the better. Guess the idea was better in my head.

How about demographic maps though. We can color them to illustrate the estimated English fan base in English speaking countries.
Doesn't sound as good as I thought, but it is for you to decide if it is useful or not. Or just fun to undertake.

We used to have a Frappr map. While it was cool to see where everyone was from, the 30 or so people who entered their location would hardly suffice as a "demographic". Even if every member on this forum entered their location, that wouldn't even be close to enough.

Thats a little different. What I am saying is give each area a color intensity, then list on the outside total number of members, and total estimated number of fans. Little simpler, looks more productive.

Seeing as though the Geektionary already has articles on notable non-EGF commentators (i.e. those who commentated in the ADV collection) and that the EvaWiki has profiles for the scribes here, adding another set of pages/profiles for this sort of thing is unnecessary. I also believe that having pages for people who run/frequent other Eva fan sites is pointless, as you can go to their sites and read about them there anyway.

What would be useful for the EvaWiki is an article on Carl Horn. Yes, he's a fan like you and me and yes he also falls into the category of 'Commentator' - yet he is the Editor for the English translations of both The Shinji Ikari Raising Project and Campus Apocalypse. I don't know what else his magical hands have touched over the years but there is bound to be lots of stuff.

How does one even estimate the number of fans based on the number of members with any remote accuracy? You may as well just take a population density map, shift the percentages a little and use that.
