Guys, Baltimore is not The Wire. I regularly and safely ride my bike from north of the city limits all the way to downtown. The downtown area has one of the best convention centers in the country, not to mention huge tourist draws like the National Aquarium and shopping centers like Harborplace -- and it borders a number of safe, hip neighborhoods like Federal Hill, Little Italy, and Harbor East.

I've been going to Otakon since 2000, and have been living here in the city since 2007. I've been working in the city since 2008. I take the bus every day to get to work. The worst that's happened to me is getting pestered by some of the bums. The vast majority of things that could happen to you can be eliminated by 1) minding your own business and 2) not being a crackhead/idiot. Baltimore is not the dangerous mess that people make it out to be. You have to actively go looking for that to find it.

Say, are there going to be any conventions that you will have in the northeast? I'd love to attend one of your panels!

I plan on going to New York Anime Festival http://www.newyorkcomiccon.com/en/NYAF/ in October but would want to know if anybody else plans on going? Like, are they as 90% sure as I am?

I don't want to spend the money getting a badge (probably pre-registering so I'd like to know within the month) and time getting down there to find out nobody else showed up. :sweatdrop:

I would most likely be there for 2 (3?) days instead of the whole Con, though. But if there's an EGF panel happening there, then I'd love to help.

It's rattling around in the back of my head. I've got some friends that are up for the trip, we just need to arrange for accommodations. I'll probably put in some Evangelion-related panels. I've got a spotlight on Hideaki Anno panel that's coming together quite nicely.

Just as an aside, Makoto Shinkai is going to be a guest at Otakon, if the Eva Monkey's presence wasn't enough for you:

The ugly 10% popped up and I won't be able to go after all. TL;DR: Eventual family gathering which [s]I must attend since I haven't seen my extended family in 15 years. And we don't have the money for both going to Europe then going to a convention.[/s] Edit: Unable to personally attend, but money is regardless an issue currently.

BUT, cons happen yearly and it's not like I can't do a NYC or meetup with EGF folks at some point or another, so no big loss. (And I didn't get to attend Fanime this year either, so yeah. >_>)

Join me for Otakon, July 28 - July 31 2011 in Baltimore, MD.

http://www.otakon.com/

I will be hosting the following panel:

Evangelion, WTF? (18+)
Friday, 12:30-1:30 am in Panel 4 (Hilton Key Ballroom 7, 9, 10)

Technically this is Saturday morning, but it's on Friday night's schedule.

Private Message me if you plan to attend the convention and would like to meet up. There may be a bar run before the panel.

Evangelion, WTF?

Fandom works in very interesting ways. Given enough time, it tends to spawn various oddities without aid or encouragement. Some things you can never unsee, and some you'll probably watch over and over on YouTube and LOL and ROFL. Occasionally you might even ROFLMAO. Sometimes you get an Evangelion ReDeath. Sometimes you get Evangelion music recomposed on Gameboys. And sometimes you even get prank calls from Spike Spencer as Shinji Ikari to MySpace users that never thought twice about having their cellphone numbers listed publicly. This panel, for better, or for worse, is a collection of such nonsense and shenanigans.

Hosted by EvaMonkey.Com and EvaGeeks.Org.

I was just confirmed as a panelist for New York Comic Con. So far I've gotten a confirmation for Evangelion, WTF?. I'm expecting more in time.

Oh bugger my britches. Maybe I should have accepted an offer to JHU instead of staying in grey London.

Schedule information now available:

http://nycc11.mapyourshow.com/5_0/sessions/sessiondetails.cfm?ScheduledSessionID=1BAFC6

They made a mistake with my submission. They didn't realize it was an 18+ panel, and it couldn't be rescheduled, so it had to be changed to the new panel I'm working on, Evangelion Deconstructed.

I really, really hope you can bring this panel back to Ohayocon this year. It would make my con.

Sorry dude, I don't plan to go back to Ohayocon anytime soon. They really dropped the ball this year with panels, and I really don't like how they just shit out a product.

My upcoming cons are as follows:

Anime USA, MAGFest, Katsucon, Tekkoshocon, Anime Boston, Otakon.

I will be at all of those except for MAGFest and Tekkoshocon. Hm, with four opportunities, I should probably drop by to the panel one of those times...

I forgot to post here, but I hosted some panels at Anime USA in Crystal City this weekend:

Studio Gainax, and the Men Who Made Evangelion
The Life and Works of Hideaki Anno

Also, just confirmed, I will be a panelist at Tigercon 2011 in Towson Maryland. If any of you are in the greater Baltimore area, maybe you could check it out. It's only one day, and it's free.

I am hosting the following:

Studio Gainax, and the Men Who Made Evangelion
Saturday, December 3rd, 12:00pm-1:00pm, Panel 1
