whoo, boy am i gonna get flamed for this, i'm sure that this topic has come up a GAZILLION-and one times, but i just really like to know this stuff, who is everyones fave couple, straight (Asuka/Shinji, Misato/Kaji) Gay (Kaworu/Shinji, Maya/Ritsuko) Whatever, i would just like to know...
May favorite would have to be Touji and Hikari, don't ask me why i just find it sweet how they can have such a cute and touching little romance going on in a "Die of Depression" kinda series, i also like Asuka/Shinji

I've got no problems with them Canon pairings, (Toji/Hikari, Misato/Kaji, Gendo/Yui usw), tough I find the latter one to be the most intresting one.
Oh, and Shinji goes with anything, of course XD I don't mind him being paired with Misato, Kaworu, Mana, Mayumi, Mari, Rei III or even Asuka if the ff itself is good (tough I'm hoping for a S/R ending in the Rebuildz)
Oh, and just for lulz, Mari/Kaworu XD

My favourite people couple in Evangelion is probably Hikari/Toji. Yui/Gendo always felt a bit shallow, and A/S never manifests itself for me beyond the pairs' teenage mind games. My other favourite ship - though it isn't technically a ship - is Rei/Ontology.
After re-watching the series in August (and watching each episode twice before moving onto the next) I feel I've grown fonder of Misato/Kaji. It suspect it was the re-interpretation of the 'walking home' scene in Episode 25 that is responsible.

Not really. There was some in 1.0, and the only bit that wasn't in NGE was when she held Shinji's hand in Terminal Dogma. I can't recall anything specific from 2.0, and I've seen that damn movie almost a dozen times.

Kaji asked him if he 'likes' her, but we all know that that word is a bit ambiguous. And his FACE when he hears that. And then "Protect her for me. Do what I cannot do". And when she tries to reach him and says that she [...]s him. (the verb being at the end of the sentence in japanese and therefore never making it out of her mouth. Okay, it isn't THAT much, but the amount of Misato/Kaji wasn't much greater (It's sad they cut down on it I luvd some Misato's Moments - but SOMETHING had to go and they GOT some Moments...)

I'm open to just about anything as long as it's well done... though I get really, really tired of the endless S/A parade.
One I'm still waiting to see however is Asuka/Aoba.

Don't really have an preference for shipping (I don't count canon parings, since there's a difference between confirmation and idealism). I see levels of emotional bonds between the characters, but I seriously doubt relationships can be made when the viewers decides to make up their own preferences; that kinda defeats the purpose for some of the characters unless the show itself confirms it.
For instance, yeah, there's a bond between Asuka and Shinji, the show doesn't hide that, but I don't see any evidence that the two want to be by each other sides for the rest of their lives; love can't be descried in brief words, but what I saw in Shinij and Asuka in the anime isn't love, it's just one caring, but scared, about the other. Love is about making sure the couple are conformable in each others' skin, not the other way around where one wants to help, but is too nervous to even approach the other. Kaji's right; Asuka (and Shinji) are too young to understand on how love works, so I find it baffling people pair them up because they're meant to be together with confirm confirmation, but the show admits upfront that the two of them, although caring about the health of each other, will give each other hell just because of their own self-problems; again, that's not how relationships work, and I think people should know better than thinking they should be together because one wants the other to hold her (despite the fact that's the character's own fault in the first place) and one wants to be with another forever (despite the fact that events the audience sees contradicts that statement).
But the what the hell am I talking about, I'm not a "Shinji x anyone else" shipper.
