I read Alabaster on a whim recently and..........it was ok, for an old school manga it had its charm but the plot's pacing was terrible, chapter 1 was super fast with almost everything, chapter 2 was much slower and felt much better to read overall but then later chapters went back to the pacing of the first one and the story suffered for it, major plot details were left out and the character of ami flip flopped so much that I found it really hard to care for her or her friends and her lover at all.

Alabaster himself was by far the best character in this and he would have been an AMAZING villain had he better material to work off, I seriously really loved his screentime.
Also the ending, boy that ending. If there was ever an ending to make me feel like NOTHING HAPPENED it would be that one.

Been sucked into reading Dead Dead Demons Dedededestruction again. After 5 months of radio silence, they've posted 5 chapters in the past 2 weeks. Glorious stuff, easily my favorite manga going.

"Absolutely. The will to make oneself completely free. Will is the wrong word, because in the end you could call it despair. Because it really comes out of an absolute feeling of it's impossible to do these things, so I might as well just do anything. And out of this anything, one sees what happens."--Francis Bacon

Finished reading X 1999 and now moved on to Tokyo Babylon also by Clamp. The former was pretty good but a shame it didn't get an ending.

Boku Machi - the last chapters appeared on scanlation sites in the past few days, so now you can read the end of the story. This is a case where I prefer the anime, not because of any difference in the plot, but because I think the more active form of presentation just fits it better. It's not really a story that needs slow and considered thought to get the most out of it.

Right now, I'm reading Futago no Teikoku.

Only the first chapter's been translated, but it's genuinely like nothing I've ever seen before.

Welp, it's from Mohiro Kito, the guy who wrote Bokurano (one of the few Manga's I've read to completion, back then I found it pretty mindblowing, now i might see it a little bit too grim dark, because there's so much suffering... and not all the stories work equally well) and Narutaru. So I guess this will tumble down eventually as well...

Well, this one seems to be more of a typical fantasy/alternate history story than the sort of tragedy he's done in the past. I actually get a bit of a Miyazaki vibe from it. If you want to discuss it further, you can go to the Mohiro Kitoh thread.

For all of the Hunter x Hunter fans the manga is returning on April 18th hopefully Togashi can get a good amount of chapters out, at least before the new Dragon Quest game comes out. I haven't been keeping up with the manga so I am unaware of what is happening in the new arc.

Slowly making my way - and purposefully - through the final oversized volume of Knights of Sidonia. I've loved this series so much these past few years, I don't want the ride to end, but I MUST KNOW how it all ends. Hopefully Nihei does something new again soon. Elsewise, I can just look forward to the deluxe/master reprints of Blame Vertical are doing later in the year. Have to say, I've seen the Kodansha physical editions in-person over in Japan; pretty sexy stuff.

I really hope we get more anime seasons of that. Is the manga available in English by any chance?

I recently read through Rurouni Kenshin; then I read the second half of Bokura ga ita (I watched the anime for the first half); and yesterday the latest volume of Noragami popped in my letterbox, so that's where I'm at.

I suppose this is as good a place to put this as any, but do any of you know anything about a job called BreadingBad Scans? They're a scanlation group that does some obscure manga, including Gideon of the 3rd by Nogizaka Tarou.

Started I Am a Hero tonight and I'm already hooked. It's funny, completely off-beat, creepy in a subtly unnerving way, and nails so much everyday minutia. Also, interesting insight into the working lives of "low level" mangaka. Knowing where the book is headed, I almost wish it would just stay and focus on Hideo dealing with his schizophrenic fears, neuroses, anxiety and paranoia on a day-to-day basis.

I haven't even finished the first volume and by far already a better zombie comic than The Walking Dead.

So Bleach is being forced to end next week, supposedly 1 chapter to go. What a disgusting way to end a decade+ old series. Just a rushed random ending that leaves most plot threads unanswered. A giant middle finger to the fans, that's what this is.

Blame the author for extending the story long past the point it should have continued even when it was no longer that popular.

Forgot about Battle Angel Alita. Found out that it had a sequel in the form of Battle Angel Alita: Last Order. Re-reading Battle Angel Alita so I can read Last Order.

He was on rough terms with his editing team and WSJ. They took away a lot of his creative freedom and forced him to alter the story on multiple occasions. For instance, they forced him to extend the Arrancar arc and shorten the Fullbring arc. Also,
SPOILER: Show
when Byakuya died in volume 57
, they forced him to keep him alive.

In other words, his relationship was unhealthy with the people he worked with, and it seems they screwed him over in the end. I blame WSJ for this. What we're getting is clearly not the ending he had envisioned.

Reading Battle Angel Alita: Mars Chronicle.

Finished Last Order yesterday. It was... different. Some good parts, some bad parts. The sheer amount of fighting styles and the unnecessary attack explanations felt like something from Naruto, Ranma 1/2, etc.

Still glad I read it.
