The Osprey has a decent cargo capacity, the manufacture Boeing puts it at 24 combat ready troops, 10 tons of internal cargo capacity, or if it doesn't fit inside it can carry 15,000 lbs of external cargo. So Nerv is transporting a lot of people or cargo.

For those who are still following this thread, I have finally created a page for this subject, and in desperate need of contributions to it. Mostly this pertains to pictures, but actual entries and intel would certainly be helpful too.

I need a second opinion on this image, I am thinking it is either a CH-53E Super Stallion, a CH-53 Sea Stallion or the HH-53 Super Jolly Green Giant. Any thoughts?

Hard to tell, but I guess it's a CH-53E.

bumping
I noticing in 2.22 that some of ships hull numbers don't match up with the class they resemble, so should the identification be based on the hull number?

I was going to try and find an already existing thread to just reply to, but it seems the search function isn't working?

Anyway, just wanted to point out the flying boat Kaji leaves aboard in Rebuild 2.22 is a Russian Beriev A-40 anti-submarine aircraft.
Giving in and indulging my obsessions includes way too many passwords and usernames.

It was mentioned in this thread: http://forum.evageeks.org/thread/10172/Real-world-military-vehicles/

The wiki page needs to be updated by someone who knows the vehicles.

I added several of them, I know more about aircraft then about the ground vehicles but I can look into more info on them.

Here's a picture of MD-160 in her prime, and here's a link to some pictures of what it looks like now. ;_; It's so sad.

added to the wiki, and it is really sad to see such a unique aircraft rusting away in a harbor.

I will go through the rest of the the thread to see if anything else needs to be added, no time frame as to when I will be done with it, and if anyone has suggestions, comments, or sees any errors with anything I add please PM me.
EDIT 6/15:
View Original PostCody MacArthur Fett wrote:As for those Sukhois: they're Su-34 Fullbacks, I'd recognize their profile anywhere.
added the Su-34 for appearing in 2.0. I am divided on the appearance in 3.0 preview because although it looks like the Su-34 I could not find any info on it being adapted or capable of carrier flight operations.
Edit: 12/23:
added the image for the next time preview with the Su-34 and included it into the page
Edit: 3/5/13:
Looking at 3.0 it appears that a number of UH-60's appear either the UH-60J or UH-60JA which are operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force respectively. Going to hold off on this one until the Japanese bluray/dvd release in order to get a better look at them.

the Resources:Explanation of Evangelion 1.01 (Pt. 1) page lists that as "Experimental Light Tank M551" (M551試作軽戦車). The only tank that I could find with the designation is the M551 Sheridan of which several experimental versions were constructed, and based on the images here the turret does bear a resemblance so maybe a heavily modified version of the Sheridan

added the Komatsu LAV and P-3 Orion just need pictures for both

If that's the case did managed to see if they were UH-60J or UH-60JA now that the blu-ray is available?

By the way, in the wiki page about the warships seen in 3.0, it's noted that some of them are cameos of the Over the Rainbow escort fleet from NGE episode 8, how did someone managed to know that it was exactly them?

No qualms about identifying the warship classes - you can tell those apart from one another on sight, and the big ones are pretty unique. Illinois, Kentucky and Kirov are mentioned by name on-screen, Kuznetsov and the other Iowas are seen. Rammage was identified from the hull number. (It's mentioned in the italics - it's DDG-61)

the two helicopters are virtually identical but the cockpit door window configuration looks more like that of the JGSDF UH-60JA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:JGSDF_UH-60JA_20120520-05.JPG plus no bulge on the nose above the FLIR

I know about how the warship are identified in episode 8, it's just that, for example, it's said in the wiki that one of the aircraft carriers on WILLE's fleet is the USS Abraham Lincoln, did we saw its code (CVN-72) in one of the screenshots? It's hard to see anything with that snowstorm.
Same thing for the Kuznetsov, and Illinois and Kentucky.

Abraham Lincoln is seen in 3.0, not in Episode 08. And yes it's identified by its hull number. Also, that page lists ships from both Episode 08 and 3.0, as acknowledged in this line -

This consists of the real-life vessels that Gainax included in Episode 08 as part of the United Nations Pacific Fleet escorting Eva-02 to Japan. It has been expanded to include the real-life vessels seen in Evangelion 3.0 as AAA Wunder's escort fleet.

Read the descriptions closely!

The USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) is a Nimitz-class supercarrier, the same as the Harry S. Truman. It is seen in the support fleet for AAA Wunder in Evangelion 3.0.

If you look closely during Episode 08 on the screen that shows the sunken streets below the fleet's position, there are several ships identified by name - including Kirov, Illinois and Kentucky. There's no doubt about the names. Kuznetsov is recognizable on sight, and at the time the anime aired it was the only Kuznetsov-class carrier in existence. Wherever specific ships/hull numbers haven't been identified, we've just put up their classes.

... is that. The way the aticle says it, it seems that it's specifically Illinois and Kentucky which are present in the Wunder escort fleet :

Wiki wrote:(In-series: Two ships that in real life were canceled while partially complete, Illinois (BB-65) and Kentucky (BB-66), used to destroy Gaghiel. One more Iowa is seen when Eva-02 makes its final landing on the carrier. They are seen again in Evangelion 3.0 as part of the support fleet for the AAA Wunder.)

What is seen again : more Iowa-class ships, or Illinois and Kentucky themselves? Now I know that it's just some Iowa-class ship that could be these two dudes.

Resolution is lousy because it's a thumbnail - you can just barely make out BB65 and BB66 and their names. The hull numbers 65 and 66 correspond to Illionois and Kentucky, which were both scrapped while incomplete.

http://wiki.evageeks.org/File:08_C245Aa.jpg
There's more warships here.

Pop in Episode 08 and watch the scene where Misato briefs the Captain of Over the Rainbow about her plans to use the battleships to kill Gaghiel and you'll see them. It might even be up on youtube if you look for it.

But I know that!

What I'm talking is that by how the part of the wiki talking about the Iowa-class is written, it looks like it says that Illinois and Kentucky, or BB65 and BB66, are also the Iowa-class we see alongside the Wunder in 3.0!
