Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

Rewatched Mobile Suit Gundam 3: Encounters in Space . Holy fuck what an amazing movie. I'll type my full thoughts later, as it's pretty late at my end, but I'll sum it up with six words: YES MY SWEET, YES MY SWEETEST All jokes aside though, it's an absolute triumph of a film. Quite frankly, Gundam c...

This is a mecha anime premise waiting to happen. A weapon-network controlling AI falls into an abyss of depression, and sends legions of robots to destroy the world in an omnicidal fit of existential dread/rage.

Re: Controversial Anime Opinions

I think the effect of "the face" is entirely dependent on the quality of the anime it's in. For good anime (Azumanga Daioh, Squid Girl etc), it's harmless, and adds fun and flavour to the show (largely helped by the fact it's not the only gag face that gets used). In shitty anime, it just ...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

I've now rewatched Mobile Suit Gundam 2: Soldiers of Sorrow . This one didn't start out anywhere near as grim as the first movie, and at first seemed far more light-hearted than the previous entry. It didn't stay that way at all, mind you; pretty much as soon as Amuro met Ramba Ral in person...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

So I just rewatched the first Mobile Suit Gundam movie. It's a lot better than I remember it, actually. Like, a LOT better. For starters, this movie is fucking grim. Not in a "hurr we r edgy and grimdark durr" way either- in a really personal, hard hitting way. For all its trappings of bri...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

Yeah, I've seen opinions ranging from great to the worst thing ever made. There's no way of knowing if you'll like it. Personally, I enjoyed it(if that 9 on MAL is any indicator) but my opinion doesn't count for much. You're probably aware, but just to be safe, steer clear of the TV broadcast versi...

Re: From Your Lips to the Author's Ears: Story Ideas

Ritsuko/Maya, since this is base on the original tv series and Maya outside of EOE never showed any hints that she likes Ritsuko and Ritsuko never shows that she likes Maya in any media. Nonsense. RistuMaya is love. Asuka/Kensuke,... Yeah, Kensuke/Rei or Asuka/Hikari makes more sense and is more pl...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

As one who likes F-91 and Victory, this statement hurts me. Seriously though, why not give F-91 a try? It's just one movie and, even if it doesn't live up to past Gundams, it's a gorgeous film. I very well may give F91 a go. I do like the mecha designs (at least from what I've seen on MAHQ), and as...

Re: Gundam (In All Its Incarnations) Mk. II

So as soon as I've watched a few of the shorter items on my backlog, I'm planning on getting right back into Gundam. I've neglected it for too long, and it is time to atone for my sins with a bloody marathon. It's been so long since I last watched anything Gundam related that I'm going to "rese...

Re: [Merch] Evangelion Figures Superthread [3]

I really ought to improve my sculpt-fu abilities. I'd love to make my own Eva figures one day. Who knows, maybe one day when I can actually sculpt worth a damn I'll get the stuff for resin casting and make a few kits for you guys. NOTICE ME TMB-SENPAI Question is, once I've gotten some more practice...

Re: From Your Lips to the Author's Ears: Story Ideas

I was originally going to post this idea in the thread about writing older versions of the characters, but I decided I'd write it here instead. I have mentioned this idea before, but only in scant detail and alongside a load of other shitty fic ideas. Unlike those, this one is actually good. I think...

Re: Kensuke vs OC?

I really like Kensuke. Aside from him being one of the most normal of the cast, he's just a really fun character. Him goofing about playing soldier by himself is both hilarious and a little bit sad (I wanted to join in with him, the poor kid), and NOTHING will compare to the laughs I got from Girlfr...

Re: Waking Up from Instrumentality

I'm sorry, that wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, but I apologize nonetheless. EoE brings out...very strong feelings in me. I abhor EoE. Probably didn't help I was 16 and at an all-time low when I watched it.

Re: Waking Up from Instrumentality

EoE is not a story of triumph, even on a personal scale. Shinji hits rock bottom, abuses Asuka, refuses to fight to save himself or anyone else, decides the world can go fuck itself for entirely selfish reasons, lashes out at the ghosts of people he wronged in abandoning them even as they fought fo...

"Like post" system?

Sorry if this has already been suggested, but would the ability to "like" posts be easy enough to implement? I know poor Monk Ed is swamped with stuff to do as is, but if it would be relatively simple to code I think it would be a worthwhile addition. Obviously if it would require way too ...

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots

Despite the fact that I am teh suck at fighting games, I decided to download M.U.G.E.N and a bunch of add-ons for it, as A: it's free, B: the endless modability, "anything goes" nature and potential for silliness appeals to me, and C: my poor negelected fightstick has been whimpering to be...

Re: [Music] The Grand Music Discussion Thread [3]

Dunno if OSTs are allowed here, but I've been listening to the Bubblegum Crisis soundtrack pretty much non-stop lately after watching the original anime. I love how each episode got its own complete (short) album of music. Tinsel City Rhapsody is probably my favourite, though I am very fond of the o...
