Re: Last Movie You Watched

A Man Escaped This is my first Bresson film and while it was a bit challenging with how austere his style is, I did find it a very rewarding experience. There is a kind of authenticity to this film that even so called docu-dramas don't quite reach. I'll try and find some more of his work in the fut...

Re: Fellini's 8 1/2

It's essentially an autobiographical film about Fellini's career as a director at that point in time. It's essentially a film that shows what it's like to be a creative artist and the pressures you face from your financial backers and the other people in your life. The title 8 1/2 refers to the fact...

Re: Celebrity RIP Thread

Not a celebrity per se, but a rather important individual: Antonin Scalia dead at age 79. I'm rather disgusted by all the people I see who are using his death as an excuse to A) make a political statement or B) dance on his grave. I don't agree with the man's politics at all, but it's pretty appall...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

Django The most famous Spaghetti Western film not directed by Sergio Leone with one of the most amazing theme songs ever. The first thirty minutes or so are pretty flawless entertainment and sheer spectacle (gotta love how a story set in the 1870s or 1880s at the latest has a Maxim machinegun in th...

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots

Civilization V is pretty fun except for the motherfucking world congress which passes edits that completely screw up your civilization, like a trade-embargo with all city-states which train wrecks your mercantile economy and keeps your from trading for resources you need like oil. If there was an op...

Re: Mad Max: Fury Road...A Gob Hobblin's Review

If that's the case, I wonder what his next project will be. I've heard rumors it might be something DC related (Justice League maybe?) but it could be another sequel to Babe for all I know.

Re: Last Movie You Watched

The Grand Budapest Hotel . Love this movie, the dialogue in particular is so snappy and sardonic to the point of greatness. The characters are so fleshed out and interesting as well, a step up from Wes Anderson's usually characters who have "quirky" and "eccentric" as their man ...

Re: Fallout

I've been playing on and off ever since I got Fallout 4 back on December 12. I've gotten up to level 21 and have recruited most of the companions and gotten about a third of the way through the main quest. While I do miss the dialogue system from New Vegas, I feel like the game mechanics have improv...

Re: Currently playing 4: Guns of the Patriots

Spent the last couple days playing Civilization V. Managed to guide the Japanese to a cultural victory. I was rather impressed with myself because that's the first time I've ever played a game of Civilization all the way through, much less a game I've won. I played around with it when I was younger ...

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]

Found a textbook I needed on Amazon for $1. Instead of purchasing through the University Co-Op, Amazon purchases allowed me to save about $150 altogether. Now I just have to hope the used books don't take three weeks to arrive.

My Dad got engaged to a woman I don't care for very much. I knew they were moving in together, but this just makes it worse. I'm glad he's happier at least.

Re: Star Wars

You know, I hear this a lot -- a lot -- but I have yet to see it substantiated in any way. I mean, yes, the broad strokes are there -- protag on desert planet, Sith antagonist, droid with secret plans, superweapon and the effort to blow it up, mentor character struck down by bad guy -- but the deta...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

All the President's Men Great movie with a stellar cast. Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford give some of the best performances of their careers but the writing is where the film really shines. Sure, some of the details get hard to follow and occasionally you don't understand how they connected point...

Re: Star Wars

The Force Awakens is an entertaining movie but it really feels like a reskin of A New Hope . There's nothing really new here, it's all familiar territory that we've seen before. The film is afraid of taking risks, but it's so afraid that it doesn't delve into any background information. Maybe the s...

Re: arguments... why egf is doing them wrong

Regarding the atmosphere of EGF, I have two observations to make. The first is that the forums are not as active as they used to be. That may simply be because Rebuild 4.0 has been postponed and there isn't a whole lot of Evangelion stuff attracting new people like it was back when I joined in 2010 ...

I am posting this from my new computer which is working great so far. The old one was a great machine, but it's just started to get old and an upgrade was needed. I'm excited though, I forgot how fast these things are when you first get them.

My 86.65 got rounded up to a B+ which is good because I'm pretty sure I did terrible on my final in my other accounting class and I need to keep a 3.0 overall average for the accounting classes in the program I'm in. I already have all Bs, a B+ and an A- but this just gives me more cushion. Now if I...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

Saw the first Underworld movie again. I remember loving the visuals (no, not just Kate Beckinsale, the photography and location shooting done in Budapest is also gorgeous) but not remembering much of the movie otherwise. After seeing it last night I remember why. The plot (such as it is) is pretty m...
