It isn't just a single episode. It's the entire conclusion. NGE's finale is the Shinji/Rei/Kaworu/Misato show. Having speaking parts doesn't mean one is a significant part of the conclusion. Maya has a sparking part too. After her mental break down, Asuka is a non-factor. All of the...

I didn't bring up the original series. I just pointed out that someone was complaining about a "flaw" in the new films that is also a "flaw" in NGE. What Nonoriri said. Having a character fade into the background for one installment of an episodic TV show makes sense. (N...

"Asuka doesn't have ANYTHING to do with taking down the final Angel!? WTF Anno? I thought she was a main character. Instead, you have this new kid barging in with just a few minutes of screen time who we're supposed to care about. To add insult to injury, the kid even takes over Unit-0...

In fact, NGE practically writes her out of the series after episode 22. She may as well be in that contamination coffin for all the impact she has. Asuka was in a coma for all of two episodes, and she gets about as much screentime in the final two episodes as the other main characters who aren'...

But I like realistic. Seriously, no one wants a fic where everyone's favorite pairing credibly overcomes their problems? With all the WAFFiness out there, all the relationship drama, no one's tackled this? No one ? Really? That...doesn't sound terribly entertaining, no. "Shinji fin...

@Lucretius: I don't think FFFFE's referring specifically to anybody here (or is he? GOSSIP!!), but c'mon, you have to be living in a wonderful little bubble to be oblivious to the fact that there most certainly are anime fans like that, particularly in Japan. Dare I say it, it&#...

Eva characters regardless of age have the proportions of a Barbie doll. Misato in a school uniform and she'd look just as adolescent as Hikari. I was just referring to erotic interests with anime characters in general. Mainly the unhealthy obsessive kinds where the otaku abandons all grip on rea...

Thanks to this snippet, I'm more convinced than ever that he's ... sexually old-fashioned, kind of.

I've suspected this since reading transcripts of the aborted EoE live action sequence. Some of the dialogue is almost...monkish in its attitude towards sex.

That takes things too far in the other direction, IMO. NGE is a show that rewards careful analysis. The central message of the show doesn't invalidate this -- one can take his hobbies seriously without obsessing over them and letting them rule his life. It's all a matter of moderation and p...

Common sense? 3.0 is, in all likelihood, the final movie in a trilogy. Making Asuka the co-protagonist at this point would be like ending Return of the Jedi with a duel between the Emperor and Lando Calrissian.

I know. Shinji should have totally done something in that situation too. It's not like there was any stupid system or something keeping him from doing something about it... You need to remember Shinji would have torn NERV limb from limb if Gendo didn't knock him out. Raising Hell and murder...

You can applaud the heroism of Shinji's actions while condemning him more broadly. The kid had a myopic point of view. Still, he went through Hell to save his friend, even if it wasn't the right thing to do. If that's meant as I reply to my post, I don't think you saw what I was get...

Shinji's rescue of Rei isn't just "selfish," it's loathsomely hypocritical when viewed in light of the Bardiel sequence. Shinji claims Gendo's an awful person for being willing to sacrifice one life, yet clearly holds Asuka's life much cheaper than Rei's. Shinji evi...

If two characters are seen establishing the boundaries a relationship, then are depicted as having no issue within that relationship, then it's suggested that the relationship is continuing well under those circumstances. Again, this story-telling device doesn't allow for exploration within...

After all, they did live together, suggesting to the viewer that this is probably what took place on a daily basis at home. But we're shown very little to indicate this; most subsequent scenes of Asuka at school, for instance, show Asuka staring at Shinji from afar while Shinji ignores her exis...

And the way the bedroom scene was used suggests that, again, something was starting between the two characters, and none of them quite knew what it was yet. But um...it's quite clear from the bedroom scene onwards that Asuka is trying to reach out to Shinji, and the Shinji of this movie is quit...

Tiffany read the dialogue right begore the 9th Angel attack as if she was trying to distance herself from Shinji, whereas Yuko read those lines as if she was curious as to the promise something like this may have for her, even though she never used to feel this way. I've never actually seen the...

And even then, I don't see how a character living in the same house as the main character, even the same room occasionally, can become "tangential". Especially since they also work together. One would think so, but 2.0 does it. Asuka has little to no tangible impact on Shinji or Misat...

+1 t what Kendrix said. Having experience writing, directing, and editing features myself, that's how it should be handled. Others think they may know how to write a decent fanfic... you know, like Stephenie Meyer does... but professional writing is a whole different ball game. Yeah man, only h...
