Many theaters are reluctant to purchase digital projectors due to the short shelf life of the projector before technology upgrades need to be made. That didn't seem to stop the rest of industry from converting to digital, and then even to the whole 3-D gimmick. Just about every film these days ...

Oz is leaving? Geez, I'm gone for only two days and everybody leaves on me.

I wish you well, man. I'll be praying for you!

EDIT: Why did I just realize my shuffled playlist was playing "Adieu" from Cowboy Bebop?

When I first saw End of Evangleion , I hated it. Sure, I understood it. I just didn't like it. Even to the point where it made me dislike the entire TV series. Then after two days of Evangelion removal, something clicked. I can't really explain it. But I suddenly could see it from a differen...

As for the interlacing, while it can cut the vertical resolution of individual frames in half, the quality can be reconstructed by taking the odd fields of the first interlaced frame and the even fields of the second interlaced frame, so there's no need to lament over lost screencap opportuniti...

Yea, I'm pretty sure that the optimal choice would be the person they love the most. In fairness, it probably doesn't need to be romantic love; it just has to be the person who is the most precious to you, so a mother's child may be sufficient, or maybe your twin, or something like that...

Watching Gunslinger Girl [...] I guess, overall, I just have a problem with children in Anime. See, that's my other favorite anime of all time. Along with Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion . It was also the first one I owned on DVD. I don't know. I never liked growing up when I was a...

What am I working on now? Setting up a darkroom. Not creative enough? Fuck you; you try to set up an analog darkroom in this digital age. :angry!!: You're awesome, in case you didn't already know that. Working on designs for spaceships, props, and sets with two other guys for the sci-fi mov...

Almost Saw 1.11 at Animazement this year, but was too tired after attending a panel by a friend of mine's. And I had it on DVD, and my film school has a giant theater screen with surround sound. So I can't say I missed out. If only EoE was out on Blu-Ray Renewal, I could get that shown at my...

I can see Anno throwing some of his frustrations in the Asuka character. Whether it would be quitting college as opposed to Asuka's completing college by 13, or possibly some adolescent crush he had at a young age yet never was able to grow the balls to meet up with her at her level. I know that...

Your bikini example could easily be interpreted the opposite way: because Kaji has had sex with Asuka, he takes ownership of her body and doesn't want her showing herself off. Your example supposes that it's Asuka's modesty, and not Kaji's repressed jealousy, that drives his comment...

In essence, you're saying what I've been saying all along, FFF4E. Yeah, I'm just double underscoring it because I think some people have a tendency to forget. Sure, a scene can possibly be interpreted better when isolated from the context. But that interpretation always has to be in put...

So we kinda come back to the problem of what angle are we looking at things? How are these different aspects mixed in any given scene? I'd agree that Asuka on the boat could easily be taken as a cry to the audience, but from Asuka's perspective things are very different. How are we supposed...

Re: Asuka: Hideaki Anno's Side-Dish

Sure, maybe she's a bitch, but if he wants her, he should do something about it. I see her character as constantly daring Shinji (and the otaku masses) to get out into the real world and do something. It isn't like dealing with Asuka is any harder than fighting giant space monsters....
