Re: Problems with the English dub...

He was a producer at Manga Entertainment and a big fanboy who had a good relationship with AWL so with Matt Greenfield refusing to return as Hyuga because ADV wouldn't see any shekels for it, she cast him even though he can't act for shit. You can hear him in the dub for Dead Leaves as well, which s...

Re: Problems with the English dub...

What's next? Toji is "jarring" on account of being the token Kansaiben speaker? If Toji had spent 26 episodes not having that dialect and then spontaneously developed it for the movies, and was also supposed to be German or something, and it wasn't even a conscious dialect but simply a sh...

Re: Problems with the English dub...

Hey guys, do you remember the time Amanda Winn-Lee (who played Rei) came to EvaGeeks to chat with us, and then HAL 9000 ran her off because he was a total dick? We could have gotten some fascinating insights into the creation of the EoE dub. Alas, it wasn't meant to be... This was perhaps the singl...

Re: Never seen Evangelion before - Dub or Sub?

After careful consideration, I think I'll watch the series dubbed the first time. I've heard that the Rebuild movies have great dubs so I guess I'll watch those dubbed too. However one thing's still bugging me: EoE. I know some people aren't fans of the dub for the series, and that's understandable...

Re: Do people still hate that last movie

I mean, for the record, I like the first movie but I didn't much care for Aliens

Then again I don't much like James Cameron while I do very much like David Fincher so

Re: Do people still hate that last movie

Oh man are trying to make me want to watch Alien 3

Is there a version of Alien 3 that David Fincher disowned slightly less than the regular version

Re: Never seen Evangelion before - Dub or Sub?

I don't necessarily disagree (most of them have indeed gotten worse the more times I've heard them), but like it or not that is the reputation they have. Together with Cowboy Bebop (the dub of which I haven't heard), the Ghibli dubs are almost always given the okay by both sides of the sub vs. dub ...

Re: EoE Final scene explained and connected to EoTV G.W.F Hegel.

I am fairly certain Anno never read Hegel. He admits straight-up he never read Kierkegaard.

It is possible to absorb a lot of ideas, even fairly abstract or complex ones, via cultural osmosis. Especially when those ideas come from some of the most influential thinkers of the past half-millennium.

Re: Never seen Evangelion before - Dub or Sub?

Ghibli dub sort of reputation PROTIP: Ghibli dubs are not actually all that incredible, they just have an aura of "respectability" because Disney throws celebrity screen actors you've heard of (as opposed to trained voice actors you haven't) into the booth to phone in the dialogue. Someti...

This may surprise you, but the answer to this question is "zero"! "Sahaquiel" is a fictional character from the Japanese animation ("Japanimation") series Neon Genesis Evangelion, created by a man named Hideaki Anno and

Re: Never seen Evangelion before - Dub or Sub?

How about this; While in the Sea of LCL scene of Episode 26', Shinji and Rei have a dialogue about how, if Shinji were to stop Third Impact and return people to their individual state, the walls of their hearts would close off and they would feel pain once more. In the subs, Shinji goes ahead w...

Re: Never seen Evangelion before - Dub or Sub?

If you get enjoyment out of slightly hammy 90s dubs like Ranma 1/2 or anything by Manga UK, Eva 's is one of the best; it has a ton of character, and it gets across most of the important points from the original just fine. (It was overseen by Gainax, so.) If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, ...

Re: Ghostbusters Reboot

Looks pretty atrocious to me; I'm actually surprised at the number of people who think otherwise. The all-female casting thing is pretty much just a politically provocative smokescreen for the fact that this is yet another completely gratuitous, senseless, money-grubbing reboot of a beloved 80s film...

Re: Hollywood's "Ghost in the Shell"

People whining about how ScarJo is a bad actress unfit for moody existential sci-fi haven't seen Under the Skin . Not that this movie will be that classy (if it actually makes it through production), it'll probably just be PG-13 blockbuster trash. People whining about "whitewashing" haven'...

Re: Cowboy Bebop

I've yet to see a definitive source on Watanabe calling the dub "superior". It's good but not perfect. Steve Blum can sound cool like whoa but struggles to give Spike emotional depth, and Wendee Lee is Wendee Lee. No shame in switching to the Japanese version with Yamadera (the champion &q...
