As it happens, I'm selling off bits and pieces of my large poster collection on eBay as I have time and motivation. I've gotten a surprising amount of money from posters originally given to me for free as promotional items. The only one up right now is this Haruhi Suzumiya poster: http://www...

Re: It looks like war. Bl

Russia invades Ukrainian Crimea. I'd really like to know what the discussions behind the public absolutist rhetoric look like right now. No-one ever wants to admit that sovereignty is negotiable in public, but when Russia's navy has their Black Sea fleet based in another country that sudden...

The local art-house theater started showing it, subbed, this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised, as I had expected to get the dub. It's a beautiful movie in the sense that any creator or engineer can relate to it; including the inherent discomfort in knowing what Jiro's masterpiece ended u...

One other thing that hasn't been brought up is economics: most Japanese anime are extremely niche products. When you start doing the math on their profitability, it's amazing that they ever get made at all. Here's something I wrote a few years ago : Let's take Star Driver. According ...

Happens more often than you would think. One of my middle-school teachers had a number of bones broken when a deer leapt across a trail he was hiking on.

Also, the giant fireball pic in that article is seriously unrelated.

@Shinoyami65

It's not a theory, it's basically what he said at the end.

As for the "Why?" -- it's Doctor Who. Sometimes the reasons are written to fit the needs of the show.

I felt that was about as good as you could get given the requirements of an anniversary episode. The Eighth Doctor minisode was a really nice touch, so that we now have complete continuity. To a certain extent, I suspect that John Hurt's part was originally written for Eccleston a long time ago,...

But there is no loss. The problem isn't that the numbers didn't add up, the problem is shoddy bookkeeping. No one stole money, they just didn't keep their receipts in order. Not directly related, but many DoD budgetary practices definitely straddle the line of "stealing" from ...

Conservative white man wins election in heavily black neighborhood by pretending to be black. It does seem pretty trollish that he basically did the equivalent of a movie producer finding a random person named Roger Ebert to endorse their film. What would be interesting would be seeing how his poli...

Also, I guess this means that Sentai/ADV (it's basically the same staff) and Gainax may have patched things up a bit. Two years ago ADV's remnants were suing Gainax over breach of contract:

On this particular subject, there is a logical explanation that makes sense in the context of the narrative: Rei has been cloned so many times over the intervening years that her soul has been diluted down to virtually nothing.

I agree with Xard that the films have been far more focused on conventional narrative structure than the original series, and that's probably intentional. (Great post, BTW, I think this might be the first time in years I've been motivated to comment on-topic). That being said, the mo...
