Shinji with Kaworu? Nope. We don't get much of a look into Kaworu's personality to determine what kind of a long-term relation he and Shinji could possibly have. And honestly I think Kaworu's role in the narrative is to represent the "ideal" world which must be killed to accept...

In my earlier posts, I did leave open the possibility with a few years down the road, and some very careful writing, a good writer could make Shinji and Asuka as a happy couple/family very possible. Just that I wouldn't ever be able to be that writer. Another way to put it is that even though Sh...

Whee! This is fun! :toothy: Funnily enough, I used to love Digimon Tamers, though I never engaged in any fandom interaction with it. I did only see Saban's dub, and what actually stood out to me the most about Takato was that he was a sweet little guy, a striking contrast to the previous two lea...

All I'm really saying is that it's impossible to come up with a hard-and-fast, universally applicable understanding of how people view the Evangelion characters in regards to dub v. sub. Now, we as anime geeks have all had our moments where the quality of the adaptation effects how we look a...

Counterexample: I'm 25 and have not wanted kids all my life. Some people don't change their minds, and it would be fair to take Asuka's outspoken desire into the equation. It's true that they're "just kids", but the depiction of these characters when they're teens i...

Well, Battlemonkey, I agree that the ending of NGE has hope, but it also offers no easy answers, and that sense of hope is derived from the general sense of "wanting to face the real world and real feelings even if it means getting hurt" rather than, "Could Shinji and Asuka learn to l...

I was also referring to the fact that when I first watched Evangelion several years ago, it was on English VHS, when I bought the tapes from a comic book store that was getting rid of their VHS stock. I've seen the series subtitled since then, but before that happened, I'd already been formu...

@Oedipus: That seems simple on the surface, but perceptions are slippery things. You can believe that THIS interpretation will create THIS perspective, but things might turn out differently depending on the individual involved, due to a huge number of factors that are as-yet unquantifiable. What was...

SSD: Yeah, it is that I think they are far, far too messed up to be any kind of good parents. I don't believe in the "kids raise you" meme, and any baggage you bring into any relationship would always be there. A good writer who didn't immediately start from a point of heavy cynici...

If you ask me (and I know nobody is), life is too short to worry about whether your perceptions of something as subjective as characterization are "correct". You can't force yourself to stop forming opinions while you wait for access to the more artistically "pure" ma...

I'm firmly in the OH GOD NO camp when it comes to the idea of Shinji and Asuka breeding. I can't imagine it coming out as anything but sick and twisted. Which for some of you is probably the point , which is fine...I'm really just far more disturbed by the "One big happy family"...

Another boring answer: I like things. Some of the things I like just happen to be anime. I'm at a point right now where I just don't feel that anime is the be-all and end-all of even animated entertainment. I'd pretty much whither and die if I was stuck with just anime, or just non-Japan...

Chowder of the series, uh, Chowder, in what I call a moment of "psycho squee" from the episode "The Moldy Touch".

I love this show so much. ...Ohmygod.

Twilight? I know it's a bitchy thing to complain about stuff you haven't read, but I've heard enough about what goes on in those books to stay far, far away. It sounds like one of those romances with an unintentionally creepy subtext, and...just no. Lots of stupid people and stupid thing...

Seen him. I laugh at his reviews, and it's interesting to see a reviewer tackle my 90's childhood instead of the usual 80's targets. Finally, I know what it feels like to have my childhood mocked and probed.

I enjoyed it. It was the sort of thing that looks faithful on the surface, but the more you think about it, the more the cracks start to show, especially re: what they left out. Still, it holds. And I liked the reconcieved ending. And people are making FAR too big a deal about seen Dr. Manhattan'...

I go up and down. I disappear and reappear.

The problem with me is that I have so many things that I like, that my interests are constantly shifting. And my range is limited.

Eh...casual, I suppose. Except...do casual fans still try to think Deep Thoughts about the series from time to time?

General consensus? Nope. Here's mine: I'm shallow. The first two volumes were a good read at first, and I held onto them (I still have them, in fact: a pair of oversized, flipped editions. Guck.) But after becoming a Shinji geek, any interest, any chance for a fair, considered evalua...

Well, The Maxx is a great comic, but the title character isn't just...he's not on my list of characters I adore, that's all (though I certainly don't dislike him). http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/5348/topcharactersshayerata7.jpg Instead, the DCAU animated version of Hawkgi...
