Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
I don't know if it's been mentioned earlier in this thread, but Fukunaga being salty about Netflix getting the streaming rights to NGE is a bit rich considering his own company fucked up the English dub of 3.0 so badly that Khara ordered them to fix it, thus not being able to release their final Eng...

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
If the redub ends up recasting, I wonder who’s gonna take on Gendo’s VA. If Robin Williams hadn't killed himself because of his Lewy Body dementia, one wonders whether he would've been in the running for this. Other than that huge missed opportunity, there is one thing that would be the most intere...

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
I hope Netflix replaces everyone and gives no response to this cringeshow. This. While I can understand that the original voice cast feels like they and they alone have the definitive performances in those roles...they also (for the most part) are the ONLY performers for those roles. The sense of e...

Re: Netflix Rights and Redub
I am 100% behind a redub with a completely new cast. I agree with penguintruth's thoughts on Spencer and Grant's performances. I think their performances in particular (and the way they may have been directed) have done more to pigeonhole their characters as "whiny coward" and "bitch&...

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
This is good, and will allow for a fresh experience watching the show again with some (hopefully) improved performances. Normally, I'm almost exclusively a sub person when it comes to NGE because I've never been able to get behind any of the dubs. The only two English cast performances that I think ...

I would actually welcome them recasting everyone if they do a new dub.

Re: Cowboy Bebop
Can't imagine Reeves actually being cast, as interesting as it would be.
I think Joseph Gordon-Levitt is more age-appropriate for the role. Plus, he probably has a familiarity with the series--his character in Brick was heavily modeled on Spike.

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
Speaking as someone who has knowledge in this area, I can almost guarantee that Netflix will not use the original subtitle files from the platinum release because there is no way that those particular subtitles would conform to Netflix's current specs and formats, so they're probably going to be red...

Re: Evangelion 3.0+1.0: 2020
Though hopefully unlike the Dragonball movie there will be opportunities to see the film subtitled in Japanese. Dragonball is pretty much the only case where the I literally cannot stand the Japanese dub. I’m sure Masako Nozawa is a sweet lady, but good God is her voice distracting. Though, the ori...

Re: The James Bond Thread
CARY FUKUNAGA IS DIRECTING THE NEXT FILM.
I do expect the release date to get pushed back. A Valentine’s Day release for a Bond film is weird as fuck.

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
It seems to have something to do with Shiro Sagisu. It might be his birthday or something and it looks like he’s performing with Loren (so maybe another collab for the FINAL soundtrack???)

Re: Evangelion 3.0+1.0: 2020
The Japanese also have somewhat of an aversion to the number 4. I don’t recall the exact reasoning, but it’s like bad luck or something, so 3.0+1.0 gets around that. I want the opening shot to be of a red landscape, like the end of 3.0, but then we pan and it’s Shinji in his school uniform and Asuka...

If you ever go to Japan, you’ll find that matcha (green tea) ice cream is actually extremely popular. And it’s delicious. They even sell green tea Kit Kats, and they’re pretty good, too.

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media
If you had told me in early 2013 (after I first saw Q) that we would get a new Star Wars trilogy fully released before the next Rebuild film was out, I would have laughed in your face...and then would have become sad because I would have thought that such a long gap would have been due to Anno eithe...

Re: Khara's 10th Anniversary - Exhibition 11/23-11/30
https://youtu.be/ndPzn4CMEC8 Months later we have a translation of an interview Anno gave at this event. In his own words he ran out of ideas after 3.0 and was overworked, the toughest point in his khara career. This basically confirms what I've long suspected: Anno did not have some kind of grand ...

Phasma is even more pointless than Mari in Rebuild. It's been an utter waste of Gwendoline Christie.

Re: [Literature] Currently Reading (discussion)
True? Didn't like it, or just got sidetracked? I read the synopsis and I thought it sounded like Perfect Blue with cyberpunk/sci-fi, which struck me as my kind of thing. Keen to hear your thoughts (minus spoilers, of course). The plot just wasn't going anywhere and unlike Perfect Blue , who had a p...

Re: Last Movie You Watched
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is a bad movie Just from the trailer alone, it looked like it was going to be absolute shit and I had zero interest in seeing it.I was holding out some small modicum of hope that it might be passable fare, but it looks like I needn't waste my time. Thus, JW:FK will be...
