Were you thinking of this post?. Avacado-slice mentioned sweat, but actually argued for the suicide attempt interpretation. (He also argues this for episode #04 incidentally.)

One very puzzling comment by Asuka in 3.0, after she first sees Rei-Q, is that Rei must be "from an early lot of Anyami-types". This implies that there a) have been multiple "lots" of Ayanami's, and b) The "lots" have changed considerably in form, functions,...

One important difference to note here is that in the NGE episode #12 scene, the two pillars are the two wings of Adam. In the 2.0 scene, the pillars are the crosses for Eva-05 and the Third Angel.

Re: Shinji's logic

What is usually believed about Shinji is he so worthless that he can't commit suicide, but this is something I find very controversial becuase if someone wants to kill themselves they'll have no problem to find a way to end their lives. Suicide is also that requires guts : In one sense yes....

Without an AT-Field, I doubt JA would have lasted 60 seconds against any of the Angels. It's armour seems similar to the EVangelions' abdomen plates, but the dummy plug controlled Eva-01 rips those off Eva-03 easily. Asuka in Eva-02 even manages to cut the lethargic and presumably in low ATF...

I still think it's pretty awesome that the token jock hangs out with the token nerd. What a pair. I get the very strong impression that Toji and Kensuke knew one another from primary school. Though this directly contradicts Seiya Otaku's opinion that he has -- like Shinji -- transferred int...

I would have to say, hands down the entire Kom Susser Tod sequence. I am aware that this is technically cheating.

The old commentary threads are still open, so you can post comments in those and let the editors choose the cream of the crop. I intend to (very belatedly) do this myself for episodes 05 and 06 shortly.

To summarise the above, one major conclusion I'd like to make is that Gendo has made only one major change and one minor change to Seele/Kaworu's plan. 1) The major change is the "switch"/"sabotage" of the Cassius spear. I don't think Gendo physically switched the...

At some point between this event and Kaworu's return to the Impact epicenter, the spear was either replaced or transformed. In the end, we end up with two Longinus-type spears. We do know that at some point the Eva Mark.06 was made autonomous, which would essentially cut Kaworu out of the loop ...

I suppose you're right. The D-Type entry system is supposed to be different, but if it was really that much different them we'd probably have been given a slightly clearer indication. The key is in writing off the Asuka viewpoint as an animation goof -- which we admittedly have seen before.

I've split this topic off from its original for a more focused discussion. While this does look like an animation goof, you can't be too careful when it comes to Eva minutae. We know Shinji's Plug (Llittle alpha) is inserted on the Eva's left hand side, While Kaworu's ...

I'm debating whether or not to bother watching this short, or seriously look at the storyboards. After the 3.0 Preview in 2.0, and the lingering effects of the camrip, I think I'll just wait for something more concrete to come along before jumping to any conclusions.

I'd like to think that they'd be heading to Kaji's place if that was the intent (and it may well have been), not literally slumming it. I do have to wonder why the hell they're walking though... did they miss the last train due to her puking? Actually, I think you've jus...

I am noticing that in both the #15 and the EoE scenes and after the train sound there is a emphasis placed on Misato's feet directly after. One while being carried, one while having sex. Good point. This also occurs in their "pillow talk" scene in Episode #20 20 C262.jpg 20 C263.jpg 2...

We are starting to approach the reading that anything involving NERV and Angels are in fact Shinji having a psychotic interlude that makes events of normal life seem much more interesting than they actually are. The Asylum Buffy interpretation of Evangelion. It would at least explain the 3I plot ho...

Alleys, Trains, and Cigars.

For a while now I've wanted to make an observation about the quick "alley" cut in Episode #15 and how it may relate to the dreamscape in episode #25. I feel there may be meaning attached to the train sound effect used and that this in turn may relate back to the episode #15 cut. In epi...

Re: No Happy Ending? Predestination In Rebuild.

then i came to a realization. In NGE Shinji was PREDESTINED to fail. He was never going to win, he was never going to get a happy ending. Instrumentality with him, Rei and lilith at the center of it was ALWAYS going to happen, and there was literally nothing he could have done to avert it. He was d...

A central assumption of this thread is that Rei was in fact in control of the proceedings during Third Impact. But if we view 3I as an allegory for Shinji's suicide attempt, and note the elevated status --not of Rei/Lilith -- but of Eva-01, then it's more likely that it is Shinji who is cons...
