Pokemon: City of Legends This Pokemon story starts thousands of years in the past. Long ago, it is said, there was a Pokemon that wished to be as powerful as Arceus itself. So it went to Jirachi, the wish- granting Pokemon, to see if it could make its wish come true. But Jirachi refused to grant su...

Much as I think Rebuild as a fantasy would be cool, I doubt it's the case. It's been established that Rebuild is simply a separate canon from the TV series--nothing more, nothing less.

Ok. It was interesting while it lasted. In any case, do you think these motifs will remain the same in the fourth movie?

Sorry. I won't do it again, I promise (well, I'll try). Anyway, here's what I think I've noticed about what the animal motifs imply about the characters and their relationships and roles: Shinji-puppy. This suggests that Shinji defines himself by his ability (or lack ther...

That's not quite what I meant. The point of the blog article is essentially that animated movie need to be aimed at family audiences (particularly mothers) in order to be successful. Therefore, "animated action movies", which are something women do not want to see, are perpetually doomed t...

I'm dreadfully sorry that I haven't been able to get the next chapter up as quickly as I thought. I leave on another vacation tomorrow, so that will give me another week with no means of writing.

I wasn't. I was just using this blog as as example of how even animators can assume animation is essentially a children's medium.

I'd give anything to see a Western (read: American) animated movie that is
- produced or distributed by a major studio
- rated PG-13 or R
- financially successful
- a drama rather than a comedy

I was honestly disappointed by X. I liked it, but it was no match for the sheer genius that was generation 5.

This has gone off topic. I'd like to return the subject to the possible animal motifs ( Shinji=puppy, Asuka=cat, etc.) and what they may imply about their role in the story.

I wonder how rotoscoped films fit into the discussion. "Waking Life" is as mature as any anime show or film in its approach And yet Waking Life, of course, bombed. Also, if any of you have read the article on the blog what did you think of it? It's here: http://theanimationempire.blogspot...

It's not just me; it's something I've noticed in the fandom as a whole. I do support it, though.

Also true, but as we established earlier, the person Asuka seems to be on the best terms with in Q is Mari and this is reflected by the motifs that they are associated with. Hence, "KittyShipping."

True, but in Q she most certainly doesn't. The way she treats him in the final scene should be proof enough of that.

Yes it is. I believe I was the one who pointed that out in the first place, no? Also, what does everybody think of the improved version of the list of motifs I made?

I've tried, but it wouldn't let me upload pictures to a forum. Do I have to have an I age hosting service to post pictures in this thread, or can I post regular links buried in spoilers?

Another interesting thing from that blog. He claims that "straight comedy" animated movies--by which he seems to mean comedies with no romantic or emotional elements to interest parents--are also a lost case(a specific example he gives is The Emperor's New Groove). Is there any...

What do you think of the "theory" propose in the blog--that the reason western animated films with serious adult themes don't do well is because they don't appeal to moms? Funny you should mention Heavy Metal, because it's really no better than the majority of fanservice-filled...
