Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
I do think it's be great if we could get some talented teenagers to do the pilots'' voices, for example, but given the tendencies of anime creeps on the internet, I'd also advise against it. (Don't need some legal minor knocking it out of the park with her performance as Rei/Asuika/Hikari, and then...

Re: [NEWS] Neon Genesis Evangelion coming to Netflix Spring 2019
It's cringe inducing. It's deflating all of the atmosphere. Shinji in particular, with those super thick Texan (?) RRRRRRs sounds really annoying. I've never been to Texas and I didn't detect an accent on Shinji. Would being familiar with Texas make me more likely to notice the accent? I assume it'...

It's like poetry. It sort of rhymes.
Because leaving the EU is akin to rejecting Instrumentality.

If they [i]did do that, we could get Eva merch in American stores. That'd be pretty cool.

Are they going to produce new subtitles for this, or are they going to license the old subtitles? (Who would even have them now?)

Re: Netflix's Death Note Live Action Adaptation
It wasn't as smart as the anime. It was a bit too rushed and needed more time to explain things. But I still enjoyed it. The soundtrack in particular excellent, easily the best part of the movie. I do hope that there's a sequel. I actually mean what I'm saying, and yet I'm still smirking because I k...

Re: Do people still hate Evangelion 3.33?
While my opinion is more positive than it originally was, I still think it's a very flawed movie and I have trouble calling it "good." It's going to be hard for 4.0 to redeem the series, but not impossible. (I did love 2.0.)

Re: Why would someone place a drawing of Sephiroth's tree in the ceiling of his office?
Gendo placing a drawing of Sephiroth's tree on the ceiling of his office reminds me of how, according to a certain conspiracy theory, there are a bunch of business owners placing internationally-known symbols for specific criminal activities on company grounds. While the symbols are associated with ...

Re: [LAEM] Would an american Evangelion live-action movie have ever worked if it had been done right?
Hideaki Anno's Shin Godzilla was made on a budget of $15 million USD, and looks amazing Are you sure that isn't just because it's cheaper to make things in Japan? I know their animators are paid peanuts. despite most of the budget being used on an unused puppet. Wait, really? I doubt that a US stud...

Re: [LAEM] Would an american Evangelion live-action movie have ever worked if it had been done right?
I agree, Tippett is the way. Loved his work on Jurassic Park. ..that was him, right? About forty million adjusted for inflation, but I would expect it to actually be higher. Blockbuster movie making is more expensive now and the kind of location shooting, etc. on the first Star Wars would be very co...

Re: [LAEM] Would an american Evangelion live-action movie have ever worked if it had been done right?
The only way to make LAEM work is by making all the monster fights stop motion animation. Assuming you're not joking, I said in another thread that I'd want them to be men in suits. I love the idea of practical effects, but the frame rate on stop-motion is low for a film with live-action components...

Why was Gendo's transition guide Unit 01?
So, you'd expect Gendo's transition guide to be Yui, but instead, it was Unit 01, who ate him. He did briefly see Yui, but given how the exchange plays out, he seems to know that it's actually Lilith/Rei/Kaworu. Is this why the normal transition guide process didn't work? Why did it work for Fuyutsu...

Re: What would've you done different with Mari?
Mari feels to me like a comic relief character whose central joke is being a generic action hero in a world where such a thing shouldn't exist. I'd try to build upon that in some way.

Re: Controversial Anime Opinions
Funimtion just licensed Speed Racer, so..... I didn't know that! Thanks for telling me! Aaanddd according to Google and Amazon, it doesn't have Japanese audio. Or a new dub. It's just a re-release of what was licensed before, but cheaper and on Blu-Ray. Still neat. Because retro anime is niche busi...

Re: Illegal torrent trackers tumbling down (tumbling down)
It was, of course, a rhetorical question that I assume would be asked by someone not much amused by the idea of shelling out good money to have text permanently plastered on the image when they can get something pristine for free. I mean, people who don't need/want the subs can just buy a Japanese ...

^ So they painted more of her than they needed to? I just impulse bought a DVD lot that has NGE, EoE, and D&R for $60. It's missing the third volume of NGE (I think episodes 9-11), but the guy I bought it from says it's somewhere in his house and he'll give it to me when he finds it. All that mo...

Re: Controversial Anime Opinions
I don't know if this is controversial, but I can't find anywhere else to post this, soo.. Funimation makes some of the highest quality dubs out there, but when I subscribed to their service, I saw they were mostly doing things that were recent and generic-looking. Not classics. What's up with that? ...

Re: Illegal torrent trackers tumbling down (tumbling down)
So Japanese companies are shutting down anime trackers because they're worried about the potential impact on their sales, even though in many cases these trackers are being used by people who otherwise can't get the material. So, uhhh.. why don't these companies create their own translations, hardsu...
