Re: Anno apologizes for 4th film delay
^ I meant to say that the movies actually sold a lot and had a large number of watchers and buyers for the BD, regardless if they were a merchandise produced solely for profit or not. Many people measure the success of an Anime title by its ranking in sales, even if that is (mostly) irrelevant for t...

Re: Anno apologizes for 4th film delay
I'm kinda done arguing the merits of the Rebuild as films. As a filmmaker from a personal standpoint I find Anno's command on the artistry & nuances of film making is far superior to what he did in the original (besides End of Evangelion which is his masterpiece). Neon Genesis Evangelion is a f...

Re: Anno apologizes for 4th film delay
I don't agree. He would just need to make an outline or the script. A good team could do the rest. This whole rebuild thing has been a fiasco and poorly planned from the start. If he can't do it properly, at least he could let other competent people do the job. I don't find the Rebuild films to be ...

Re: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Digitally Re-Created VHS Subtitles
This is pretty awesome. The VHS translation was the one I had more contact with after the Portuguese DUBs since I bought some (probably bootleg) VCDs back in 2000 that were scanned from the VHS and watched them a lot before the 2003 renewal was out. I even added some background lines from those subs...

Re: Most Accurate Translation for The End of Evangelion
Mjolnir, have you checked this: http://forum.evageeks.org/thread/18332/The-newest-most-accurate-EoE-subs-to-date-are-out/ ? It still needs some review here and there, not 100% perfect (90% I dare to say) but dozens of times better than all the 3 main translation we ever had so far. I've personally p...

Re: Anno apologizes for 4th film delay
Even with the disappointment that Rebuild was, by not innovating or improving the original series and removing all the psychoanalytical and mindfucks parts behind, my view of the original series nas never been shaken. In fact, I've just finished my first year in my second university : Psychology. I'...

Episodes 22 and 19 for me are the apex for the series IMHO, I like rewatching them frequently.
Episode 16 is also very good, it's a shame they have lost the original master for it.

Re: (EoE Spoilers) Discussion About Misato
"Fanwank" is entirely the wrong term, since the suggestion was first strongly planted in the fandom by one of the Newtype film books, an officially licensed tie-in with a good amount of behind-the-scenes info. IMO those who dismiss the less savory elements of Misato's relationship with Sh...

Re: The newest most accurate EoE subs to date are out
I find the repeated criticisms of my rough translations a bit curious. The intention of the post was just to point out places I found problematic. Of course the translations in large part aren't supposed to be finalized. That can always come later. Ow, I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to sound exces...

Re: The newest most accurate EoE subs to date are out
@Mods I still don't quite understand the criteria of "omnislashing" that resulted in a warming for me before, if my following quoted response is not adequate, I ask to just orient me in how I should post instead of punishing me: Reichu, thank your for your time in commenting those lines, h...

Re: The newest most accurate EoE subs to date are out
If Lilith's Chamber of Guf is empty then the simple fact that human beings can reproduce (and they do reproduce, even after the time when it's confirmed Lilith's CoG was empty -- we do see babies and children throughout the show) Souls DO SPLIT, tough. Babies are split from their own mother. Yes I ...

Re: The newest most accurate EoE subs to date are out
Ok, this has been a rather frustrating discussion. I was hoping to get some sort of consent and narrow down the options with the help of everyone. Instead, everyone seemed to have their unique own different preferences. It helped, however, in giving me more time and perspectives to think, but In the...

Re: The newest most accurate EoE subs to date are out
I think you're being too literal, By chosing "embryo of souls"? You want to adapt it even more?! But ambiguous terms that can hardly ever really be understood can't really be adapted! That's the issue! Reichu wanted to be even more literal than me! By the way, you never gave us a translat...

Re: The newest most accurate EoE subs to date are out
sephirotic : I'm still confused as to where you're getting "ALL living beings" from. Inochi doesn't refer to "living beings", let alone all of them. It refers to "life", as in "a life" , that thing that starts when you're born and ends when you die. Inochi no...

Re: The newest most accurate EoE subs to date are out
Could just use a common literary trick and have him say, "the tree, the embryo, of life". Substitute commas with dashes if desired. This achieves repetition without actually repeating anything. Hmmm, I don't like this alternative. The "Tree of Life" is a very important concept i...

Re: The newest most accurate EoE subs to date are out
But is "all living beings" what they actually mean here by "inochi"? Wouldn't Fuyutsuki say "subete no inochi" if that were the intention? The repetition isn't ideal, but I wouldn't want to be so zealous about avoiding it that new misconceptions are created. I had a pr...

Re: Eva and Depression
As someone that has actually suffered from clinical depression at an early age (from my 10 to 13 years) so strong as to actually consider suicide and suffer panic attacks, I can say from the deep of my heart that Evangelion is an amazing visceral and realistic take on the human psyche. My experience...

Re: (EoE Spoilers) Discussion About Misato
I've never agreed with the common theory that "Misato is a slut that can only communicate through sex". And I also completely disagree with the fanwank that Misato was actually LITERALLY offering herself sexually to Shinji on Episode 23. Misato completely realizes that she failed as a moth...

Well, eye tracking is to a large degree involuntary, so that's why good subbers try to keep the amount extra stimuli to an absolute minimum. But you make a perfectly valid point about using the "Standard" track as the normal movie viewing track, so it was overzealous of me to suggest a th...
