It's showing along with Q in theaters with a bit of new footage.

"Super Sax Plays EVA", 6 minutes 10 seconds in.

Listening again, it seems I imagined the word "live" ever being there.

Hearing the choir sing along to the preview music made me laugh out loud. The lyrics are the same as from Wind Symphony: "This time is like no other for us in living memory / Live, breathe the air, take in the feeling of peace and harmony / Freedom can fly..." Actually, it sounds like &quo...

Well, comparing Kappa Mikey to Batman or Pooh's Grand Adventure in terms of quality isn't really fair and wasn't the goal; Kappa Mikey was a low budget series animated by a small startup studio for a deep cable network (which doesn't excuse it from being that bad, but still) ...

I remember reading that Kappa Mikey looks like that because most of the money went to the guy in charge of the company and didn't end up going toward the show's actual production... but Kappa Mikey 's sloppiness really makes it a good example for what I'm talking about. A cartoon slo...

an interesting topic, but I'm not actually sure what details you're talking about. seems pics would be very helpful here, no? I mean I can google stuff as well as the next guy, but it doesn't help if I'm not looking at the same frames you are. OK, here are some GIFs I made a while b...

Idiosyncracy in Japanese Draftsmanship

In attempting to draw anime style and observing animesque drawings by non-Japanese artists, it seems to be the case that the main reason non-Japanese anime drawings are obviously "fake" is that, when Japanese drawings are sloppy, the sloppiness is of a different sort than the sloppiness yo...

Anyone else notice Asuka's shot was reframed to emphasize her Gainax bounce?

Weva's particularly amusing for how we can repeatedly see shots revised for the purpose of being fanservicier.

Bad news for the me who was doing a pretty good job of keeping my enthusiasm under control to the point of feeling very confident about being able to wait to see the movie for the first time in a theater rather than as a lousy camrip.

I'm looking for recommendations that fit the following criteria:
-Speculative fiction (science fiction or fantasy of the not-the-standard-fantasy archetype variety)
-Character driven rather than concept driven
-A strong, unique concept anyway
-I haven't seen it already

Mahoromatic with the maid genre, Chirin no Suzu with... children's cartoons in general, or something... I've only seen the first Digimon series, but Mamoru Hosoda's contributions felt like deconstructions in that they believably focused on what real-world interactions with digital monst...
