Re: 2K vs 4K or "Is It Really Going To Be That Different?"

The only possible reason I can see for investing in 8K or anything higher would be to improve upon compositing work. Green screen effects tend to work better when you have a higher resolution to pull from, and the difference would be noticeable to people even if the film isn’t distributed in 8K. Hon...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I enjoyed this film, I thought it was well made for the most part. I'd say it was worthy of my first self-paid theatre film, but definitely NOT a 100% rating. Seriously, Rotten Tomatoes has lost all credibility in my mind, that seemed to be a really virtue signalling move. So, Rotton Tomatoes doesn...

^ If shot in 4K, it would probably still run at 23.97 FPS.

Re: Evangelion's site and Facebook/Twitter covers updated with new images - First teases of Shin Eva

Nothing in The Lord of the Rings trilogy was shot on 70mm. That was a 35mm production through & through. Don’t know where you got that it was shot on 70mm. Anyway, the short answer is likely - No. It’s not being “shot” in 4K. Unless a large part of the film ends up being live action 4K seems li...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I finally saw Avengers 3: The Avengening . I'm gonna write with a spoiler-free goal only because I feel like the narrative beats that are usually consider spoilers aren't in any way indicative of the film's actual quality, so it would be a waste of time to really dwell on it. (That, and you've most ...

Re: Evangelion's site and Facebook/Twitter covers updated with new images - First teases of Shin Eva

Things that are shot in higher resolutions aren't really meant to be rendered at those higher resolutions either. I'm planning a short film, and I'm preparing to shoot any digitally composited scenes in 4K and then downscaling it to 2K. I took this hint from Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters of a ...

Re: Evangelion's site and Facebook/Twitter covers updated with new images - First teases of Shin Eva

This comic is getting framed in my bathroom. I will gladly take Anno's Rebuilds/Godzillas/Animator Expos/Live Action Experiments (okay, NOT Cutie Honey) Fine then. More Cutie Honey for me! Seriously, the more ridiculously grim-dirp Superman becomes, the more I appreciate things like Anno's Cutie Hon...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Maybe I just dislike how the Russo Brothers as filmmakers seem completely devoid of a unique voice of their own & simply do the job the producers want. True. The Russo Brothers are great in our technical terms. They make solid movies with a consistent tone. But there's nothing unique about thei...

Someone needs to watch Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris. That's one of the most compelling Tokusatsu films ever made featuring quick-moving creatures.

If this keeps up, I'll have to write a strongly-written complaint about all of this inappropriate fan service to the staff here.

Mr. Tines#877674 wrote:That's what I call fan-service.

Wait, what? Noooo!!!! The staff already approves!

Re: Evangelion's site and Facebook/Twitter covers updated with new images - First teases of Shin Eva

Live action stuff actually in the movie woukd feel jarringly out of place to me. The films have been really light on that kind of existential mindfuckery so I can't help but feel that it would be really strange to include it now. Maybe. I remember Eva Jo going into the mindfuckery a lot sooner than...

Re: Evangelion's site and Facebook/Twitter covers updated with new images - First teases of Shin Eva

It’s weird that Anno is photographing live-action lights for an animated project, right? Like, that seems to me to be one of the most easily made effects in all of animation. I can’t think of anything that would necessitate any live action sources like that. I wonder what he has up his sleeve. I can...

Re: Debate the quality of Rebuild here. [2]

You know, I might be a fun expirement to re-edit NGE in a similar vein as Eva Q. Just leave leave the audience as much in the dark as Shinji is for as much as is feasibly possible. I'll bet Third Impact would seem somehow much more bizarre in that context than it already does in its current context.

Re: Debate the quality of Rebuild here. [2]

^ I'd have to agree with that. And to FreakyFilmFan4ever's point, I can totally agree that we the viewer are subjected to a large lack of perspective from the film as a whole, and leaving us as much in the dark as Shinji is still a jarring, and somewhat annoying experience. See, I think that's an im...

Re: Debate the quality of Rebuild here. [2]

Eva Q separates the Shinji tolerant from the Shinji intolerant. Never has a fan base of an anime franchise full of such beautiful waifus and best-girls been so severely blue-balled from basically all of them. No outside perspectives, no alternate clear points of view, very little omniscient story-te...

Re: What You Did NOT Like About Evangelion

So, the past 3 times I’ve watched NGE it was all 26 episodes + EoE within the span of one day. In that context, I’ve started to not like Episode 22’. Like, not at all. Don’t get me wrong, the episode is stunningly well executed and is one of the most powerful moments in the whole franchise, and watc...
