Re: Superhero Films & TV

^ Logan was serious and dark but it didn't try to comment on the freaking Patriot Act or use Wolverine as an allegory for the Bush Administration. Did you seriously not catch any political commentary in Logan, because it was most definitely there. From the issues of immigration and the current refu...

Re: Superhero Films & TV

The Dark Knight is a legit good movie. It would be as loved today as it was a decade ago for being highly entertaining as an action flick, as well as being smart and philosophical as a character study. This may be anecdotal, but I've seen tons of people compare Logan as being the 'TDK for X-Men movi...

I must say, without having read the article, and only having read what Ray provided within his post, I got to agree with Oshii. Just saying.

Re: Not Liking Eva and it's Emotional Connection

Haters gonna hate. You can't be everything to everyone, and there's going to be things you like that others don't. That is the nature of individuality. I'm personally used to being the one with odd interests relative to my peers, and so it doesn't bother me when others don't share in my interests. T...

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

I've seen it, and he was the weakest part of it. Kinda have to agree. His role as "other friend" made it pretty clear what his fate was going to be from the start. I haven't seen the film since my initial viewing, but the only thing that left an impression on me was the main character's a...

Re: Star Wars

Given the unique relationship between Maul and Ezra, as well as their connection with the holocrons, I'd say it was pretty necessary to have Ezra involved somehow, even if he was sidelined. Ezra needed to be rid of his connection with Maul. Anyone else catch the reference to TPM and Qui Gon Jinn's f...

Re: Star Wars

I don't know how many of you follow Rebels, but the highly anticipated confrontation between Old Ben Kenobi and Maul aired last night, and I've got to say that it was perfect. There were a lot of concerns going in, particularly regarding the handling of Kenobi, but I was deeply satisfied by the enti...

Re: Anyone else feel dislike towards EoE nowadays?

I love EoE. Sometimes I'll simply throw it on without having watched the series immediately prior. The emotional message of it all really speaks to me, even to this day (though I admit, it's been some time since I've viewed it; my copy is currently stored upstate at my father's place). The original ...

Why? Is there something in particular you want to comment on?

Re: [Poll] What episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion do you like and dislike?

It was difficult for me to pick a least favorite, because there's no true filler episodes. I settled with A Human Work, even though there's a lot about the episode I still like. I actually quite like Magma Diver as an episode. Dance Like You Want to Win is my favorite, because it perfectly reflects ...

Re: Superhero Films & TV

Enlightenment by death is not an unheard of trope. Think Gandalf the White, or anything pheonix related. Remember the fate of destruction is also the joy of rebirth.

They're all reprehensible little shits, Shinji especially. The only pure character is Rei, and she gets all my hugs.

Re: Hollywood's "Ghost in the Shell"

IMO, even if the message of the film contrasts with prior takes on the franchise, that doesn't take away from the final outcome of the film. Even the original films and the later series are contrasted in that the former are more about internal philosophy and blurring the lines of individual humanity...

It was only a matter of time, but the Final Mixes of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 have been announced as a bundle for the PS4. I'm super excited. I missed out on these when they came out on PS3, and I've always been interested in the bonus content.

I've been a bit more musical lately. I'm currently enrolled in an electronic music and MIDI class, and we just turned in our loop composition project-- basically, a three minute track made up entirely out of pre-recorded samples arranged together. It's not perfect, but here's what I turned in for th...

She was one of its most famous scientists, a daughter of a Seele member, involved in its most famous lab test to date, and married to the guy still in charge. Where are you getting 'famous' from? Project E was a secret. Seele is a secret. Most of what goes on at Gehirn/Nerv is a secret. Yui isn't a...

Re: A question about Rei's physical appearance

^Epigenetic differences also explain an apparent 'plot hole' - Naoko recognises Rei-Yui on first sight at the age of four. If it's not obvious when she's fourteen then everyone must be pants wettingly scared of Gendou because that is one hell of an open secret. How many people would remember what Y...

It's unfortunate they had to put the bear down. However, I like how the article chooses to type in large bold, "BEAR WAS DESTROYED". Interesting choice of words.
