Re: Reviving the Fan-Geeks Commentary Project?

It looks like all(?) of the episodes have pages up, they're just not linked from the main page. If you replace the episode number in the URL you can get to all(?) of them. Is there something we can do to get this ball rolling again? I'm neck-deep in my NGE obsession again and I'd love to maybe chann...

Reviving the Fan-Geeks Commentary Project?

Hey everyone, it's been *cough* a while since I last posted here (something like, oh, 9 years or so). Not that that's germane to the topic, but oh well. I'm wondering why the Fan-Geeks Commentary Project (http://wiki.evageeks.org/FGC) was never completed, or at least made more progress? It seems lik...

I've marathoned Eva about 10 times, each time with at least one new person (except for once I think). Only one of those times we did it over 2 days because the new person was a pansy. I can't think of any greater joy than carrying on and having fun with the person in the first half, ...

I love the first half simply because it's not as crucial, dense, and heavy in terms of important thematic themes or plot, so you are really more free to take time and notice the subtleties of the craft including the foreshadowing and developmental techniques. This is the key, and I probably did...

I bet something will happen in 2.0 that completely negates all of this discussion (i.e., a major difference in some way from the original plot, which is what we're expecting). I can't see Touji or Kensuke having a greater role in this, because seriously who cares about them, and I do...

They just released another trailer, for a movie that's been out a month. You can bet they're going to milk this until a month before the next one comes out.

No it's not. Getting rid of them frees up screen time for characters who ACTUALLY MATTER.

These trailers all spoil a LOT of the movie. It doesn't make sense that they'd make these if the new series was truly aimed towards people who've never seen Eva as they say. It makes me wonder.

Edit: I wonder how many people in Japan have never seen Eva. :P

Part of me doesn't want any of the pilots to be nearly as effective as Shinji. It's more interesting that way, because it normally doesn't happen. But, I guess if eva was counter-anime standards, then rebuild is going to have to be counter-counter-anime standards... bleh, too hard. :x An...

(in before "there is already a topic for this") Israfel: skipping Gaghiel, we can immediately place Asuka and Shinji together (after a bit of initial tension) so they can be even more like "wtf? why do we have to work together?) (it always seemed a bit stupid t...

Eh. It's important, in my opinion, to make Asuka worthless. That's a big part of her inferiority complex. The ONLY thing she ever did right was come up with the plan for dispatching Matariel. It just wouldn't be the same if she wasn't defeated at every turn. And, I doubt switching pl...

Having not seen Elfen Lied, I'm not sure, but I'd venture that Bardiel is more "shocking" because of its context. I mean, maybe the violence isn't as shocking by itself, but when you consider all the messed up things that are happening at that exact moment, it gets pretty inten...

Let's just hope they don't do something stupid and wait until all 3 are out to release them as one package... Oh, who am I kidding. By the time all 3 are out, there will be 5 different versions to buy, each one containing only one more feature/one more frame per second/a shinier box/more use...

I don't really need the help of a tabletop RPG to sit around and mope and/or experience terrible angst. It doesn't sound like it would be very fun.

...which I will ramble on about now. That one bit made me laugh profusely. You forget that 1999 hadn't yet happened in the real world when Evangelion was created. It's easier to think that the events of Evangelion happened in an alternate timeline where Sega was the dominant console produce...

Well, JA is up next in our timeline after 1.0, so it's possible. Based on the omission of other data about competitors with NERV from 1.0, I think it's a safe bet that JA won't be in there at all. The only thing it does in the series is show that NERV is a bit shadowy, and we already kno...

In the series, it makes no sense. There's great care to develop the characters' relationships realistically all the way through; they never act out sporadically (with some exceptions) or out of turn, and save their really interesting actions until the characters truly know each other...

Is the light tone that the first part of the series originally had gone in the new movie? The only thing I have to deny this is Misato's line about "service" at the end, but I'm not sure if that's just a standard or an indication of how light it is. Certainly introducing Lilith...
