Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

A major film studio that operated anything like this would be rightly sued for violating their fiduciary duties to their shareholders. The DCCU is a flop but that’s like saying the auto industry should have gone back to making salon cars for the rich after the Edsel. Also, superhero movies can be a...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

There's also just how much actual money was being traded while these movies were made. If you spend $30 million on a movie, and make back $37 million, that's pretty neat. If you spend $300 million, and only make back $307 million, that's actually rather terrible. The net profit is $7 million in bot...

Re: DISNEY buys FOX

It's not quite a monopoly yet. See, in order to be considered a possible monopoly threat, a company has to control at least 50% of the market share of its product. Disney and Fox combined would make up about 40% of the film market. That's a lot, but it still leaves room for the other major studios (...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

It's complicated. A very rough rule of thumb is that movies have to at least double their budgets to break even. This doesn't take into account things like how much money the theaters keep (it's usually about half of each ticket sold, which is why the budget has to be doubled, but it can be more or ...

but a breakeven scenario exists in the high $600M global B.O. range which is where this Snyder opus is bound to final." That's pretty much what I was saying in the first place. If this thing pulls through to, say, a $650-million-plus gross, then it'll have made it into the black--but only by t...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Justice League has now made $618 million, meaning it has doubled its budget and should theoretically break even, assuming it stays in theaters as long as the other DC Extended Universe movies. A final tally of $650-675 million looks likely at this point, with $700 million possible at a stretch. DC ...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

It's been quite some time, since I've seen Haruhi, but I feel like you're both right at that front. I enjoyed it enough when I first watched it, but it might be one of those shows which are so deeply rooted in the time were produced, they don't quite work as anything else but time capsules. The thi...

The End Times?

In a few days' time the Federal Communications Commission will vote on whether or not to repeal its policy of treating all internet service and data provision equally--otherwise known as "net neutrality". If this is repealed, and it likely will be, it could result in only the largest, weal...

DC is already releasing a theatrical animated movie next year. Unfortunately, it's a Teen Titans Go! movie, so it hardly counts.

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

I was never all that fond of either Haruhi Suzumiya or Lucky Star . The problem I have with these shows isn't that they're boring, but how poorly they've aged. They're both shows that came from studios trying to make what they think anime fans want to see, based on the stereotypes of the time. It do...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

As of now, Justice League has made $570 million worldwide. For a movie that cost $300 million overall and needs (according to most of the sources I've read) $600 million just to break even, that's not impressive. By all rights a Justice League movie, no matter how expensive it was, should have made ...

Well, the Avengers: Infinity War trailer is out and it is. . . well, it's certainly a trailer.

Speaking of which, the rumored budget for Infinity War is $1 BILLION. To earn that back, they'd have to be one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, up there with Avatar!

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

So here's something. Justice League isn't doing quite as well domestically as Wonder Woman , or even Suicide Squad . So far it's on track to earn about $100 million in its opening weekend (it's earned $96 million domestically so far, and the weekend isn't over yet). Internationally, it's another sto...
