Re: Oh The Horror!

Finally a horror film comes along that can make even me squirm. I absolutely loved every insane second of this gorefest. 10/10 will be forcing friends and family to watch it.

Re: Anime you loved but now hate(and other ways your tastes changed)

This thread is perfect as I recently went back and rewatched a few series that I had rated as 10/10 on my MAL from when I first got into anime over a decade ago. First was Angel Beats which turned into a slog after about 5 episodes, so I'd give it about a 5/10 now. Haganai was the first harem series...

I have enjoyed the first season of The Owl House a lot more than I thought I would. Great characters, some pretty clever mile a minute jokes and a comfy setting.
SPOILER: Show
Luz is cute, CUTE! Hooty and King need their own episode again!

"Druk" (eng t/l: Another Round)- 9/10 https://cdn.cinematerial.com/p/297x/9gpqexlu/druk-danish-movie-poster-md.jpg?v=1596835138 My second favorite movie of 2020, another superb performance by (my admittedly favorite actor) Mads Mikkelsen. Four friends who all teach at the same highschool d...

Remember; if you collect as many blurays as I do, always check the discount movie bins in the pharmacies of any small town you ever pass through. Got all six titles for $18 total.

The Lighthouse- 8/10
A great follow up to The VVitch. Less horror, but still that sense of isolation and building dread that Eggers knows how to build so gracefully. I don't want to say anymore except go see it if the trailer intrigues you at all.

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance . I'm halfway through the series and loving it. So much attention to detail in the scenery, the puppeteer work is exemplary, the story is moving at a good pace, a good blend of humor and drama. Also, The Hunter's design is way too fucking cool! https://vignette.wikia...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

3 episodes into The Boys and fucking loving it. The total antithesis of the MCU and a huge middle finger to the over-saturation of superhero media. Plus, Karl Urban.

Too Old to Die Young- Refn at his most self indulgant and I am loving every neon-drenched, panning shot, pauses-in-dialouge second of it. If Only God Forgives was too slow for you, don't even bother trying.

Re: Last Movie You Watched

A Field in England. It's been awhile since a film wowed me to the extent that I dropped $45 to order the blu-ray the moment the credits started rolling but this is a film I'm going to have to watch a few times to fully appreciate everything about it.

Had a lot of fun seeing this tonight with some friends. I went in with pretty low expectations and ended up coming out contemplating pre-ordering the blu ray so that shows how enjoyable I thought it was.

Velvet Buzzsaw- Probably the best Netflix original I've seen. Absolutely tears apart the pretentiousness of the art world in a hilarious and sadistic fashon. Jake Gyllenhaal and Toni Collete are fantastic as usual. 9/10, would recommend.

Liverleaf : Japanese film about a schoolgirl who's bullies take it too far by burning her house down with her family inside, so she gets revenge by killing them all. Hyper stylized violence and really just bleak as all hell, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. https://youtu.be/uxHcU-vz1to Col...

I don't even have any excitement left to spare for anything else coming out this year,I spent it all when I first saw the trailer for season 2 of Happy! It's looks like it's gonna be the Crank films on super meth!

Re: Last Movie You Watched

Men and Chicken - 8/10 Very absurd black comedy from Denmark, starring Mads Mikkelsen. One critic described it as the Three Stooges visit the Island of Dr Moreau, which is pretty bang-on. Go into it fresh without any prior knowledge. I'd highly recommend if you like weird, almost uncomfortable come...

Re: [Literature] Currently Reading (discussion)

Read the novella You Were Never Really Here which managed to be even bleaker than the film based off it. Now I'm reading Zoe's Tale , the fourth book in the Old Man's War series, and loving every page of it. If Scalzi talks at all in real life the way he makes his characters, I'd love to have a beer...

Zombieland Saga is the best show to air this year. Every episode is just so much fun. You know you're doing something right when the show spoofing idol anime has a better song than actual idol anime.

Re: Last Movie You Watched

Went and saw Lars Von Trier's new film The House That Jack Built at a film festival today. I quite enjoyed it. Very darkly humorous and Matt Dillon nails the role. While it was gory, and a few moments were pretty shocking, I fail to see what outraged so many people at Cannes. Will definitely be pick...
