Re: Blade Runner franchise

Saw it today (currently in Italy, waited for an 11am show with English audio and Italian subtitles on a Tuesday morning to minimize annoyance and in a 200 seat cinema of which about 10 were occupied I still managed to get the twat slurping his drink loudly 3 seats from me ffs). What I liked: - the v...

1 - A Bobby Fischer biopic with Christopher Ecclestone as Bobby Fischer 2 - Charlize Theron as we knew her in Aeon Flux to be the Major in the Ghost in the Shell movie adaptation, assuming it had to happen 3 - People to understand that the Matrix is the bastard and overrated son of Ghost in the Shel...

Re: [Film] Prometheus + Sequels

What I now "hate" about Covenant is that the infection through spores was pretty unnecessary. They could have been attacked by the neomorphs (or whatever the white beasts are called) sooner and their bite or whatever could have caused the illness and death from inside. Or something. :uhh:

Re: [Film] Prometheus + Sequels

If SoD is a "cost" for the intelligent and discerning viewer, one may say that what makes this "cost" worthwhile is the degree of emotions it affords. Good dialogue, charismatic characters, all help turning a blind eye (most often involuntarily) on smaller plot holes or illogical...

Re: [Film] Prometheus + Sequels

FriskyIan, my bad, I thought that you meant the Prometheus ship , not the engineer's ship that, up to that point, both audience and characters thought to be a building/cave. This said, air breathability is no guarantee of harmless air as Reichu has already pointed out. See how the thing was handled ...

Re: [Film] Prometheus + Sequels

The area we have scanned several times and everything says it's completely clean? Prometheus is not the dumber of the two in this scenario. They have scanned both the outside and the inside, the inside is CLEAN. Everything shows them that, there's nothing wrong with taking the helmets off when ther...

Re: [Film] Prometheus + Sequels

1 - Howling, "martian piss", removing the helmets, going in without weapons, the way Fifield has a freaking breakdown the moment they find the body of the engineer by the door, the realism of the 15 minute run back to the ship, whilst the amazing duo got lost like suckers (not bad for pres...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

Can't believe how many people into sci-fi seemed to have missed Arrival when it came out last autumn... As a former translator, I guess I was an ideal target market for the movie and facebook and YouTube did their job. I did create a thread (second page now) and I felt all alone in it. :sniffle: Eve...

Re: [Film] Prometheus + Sequels

^ One can make the claim that, objectively speaking, the characters' actions in Prometheus are more infuriating than the actions of the characters in the original Alien movie, simply because the "characters acting stupid in horror films" is more forgivable when all of the characters In Al...

Re: [Film] Prometheus + Sequels

They were. And chances are they're going to nitpick this one just because they hated Prometheus and they want to hate this one too, like a lot of the people on the other end of the divisive camp this movie has supposedly made. No, no, no. I for one I seriously hated Prometheus (i.e. I think it's an...

Re: [Film] Prometheus + Sequels

Watched it today, had low expectations which probably helped having a good time. It does stench of Prometheus in some ways (expensive expetidion: tick, new planet seemingly inhabitable: tick, fassbender: tick, patogen: tick, female lead: tick, no idea about prophilaxis etc: tick), but it's an infini...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

Watched Prometheus last week and Alien Covenant today. I'd give Prometheus a shit 4/10, Covenant is around 7/10. Nobody in their sane mind can think that Prometheus is better than Covenant. Prometheus was absolutely silly in proposing that an interstellar expedition costing a trillion dollar and cle...

Everybody looks more beautiful in the anime. Beauty is the promise of happiness, said Stendhal, who am I to disagree? :)

Re: Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)

Could somebody be as kind as to help me manage my expectation for the manga I'm quite certainly going to get on Kindle, without spoiling too much?

What should I expect, apart from Mikasaestucasa, Potatogirl and Christa not looking as lovely as their anime counterparts?

Re: Your entertainment wishlist?

Let's see - Stephen King's The Dark Tower epic turned into a quality TV series with Matthew Mac in it (either as Eddie or as the Gunslinger, can't decide) - A new SEGA console with the best Virtua Fighter yet, a new Panzer Dragoon along the lines of Orta, a multiplayer Virtual On, Shen Mue 3 (this l...

Re: Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)

I have watched it recently and I swear it's rekindled my love for anime. Haven't been so caught up in Japanese animation for quite a while. The first season of the anime didn't have the strongest start and there was some silliness compared to more realistic series I account among my favourites (such...

Re: Cowboy Bebop

I think that Spike's arc is nearly underdeveloped. The existential side of it (the story about the cat, the fact that he wants to find out whether he's still "alive" or not) is very interesting but really comes out only in the last episode. Granted, Julia dies only in the 25th , but surely...

[Literature] Ted Chiang's speculative fiction

I've searched the forums for "chiang" and I couldn't find anything related to the author of the short story that was adapted into Arrival, the recent sci-fi drama. Following the movie (which I was very keen on since it dealt with things I really like, namely aliens, language learning and A...
