Re: The possible meta-commentary of Asuka's NTE backstory

My read of it is pretty simple, and it's to illustrate her uphill battle to be "the best" and emerge as the pilot who is best suited to pilot Unit 02 for NERV's EU branch, and her competition being clones turns it into a literal battle against herself. I don't take it as being a grand reve...

Re:

Meh. The visual editing is good, but the song is pants. Any other song would have served just as well. IMO, Touch remains the only Eva AMV worth noting. Spacesweeper: FWIW, know that this effort mattered. It has inspired me to write, to enjoy, and to live. Yes, it's just an AMV, and it combined con...

Have a new 'Theatrical Trailer' up, which I made as a successor to the 'To Build a Home' teaser. With this one, I aimed to focus on the emotional intensity of Evangelion, whereas with 'To Build a Home', the focus was on emotional intimacy.

Hope you all enjoy it.

That was a fantastic video, Space Sweeper! I'll post the rest of my feedback under a spoiler in order to avoid ruining it for those who haven't seen it yet... I liked how the video was about lots of characters and relationships, rather than putting all the spotlight on just one character or...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hy0awcLBWuc Exquisitely beautiful piece of art we have here, an AMV is worth a thousand pictures. It's new. One of the best I've seen in a while and one of my new favorites, it really captures a few themes Anno was going for- perfectly. Touch by Daft Punk. Th...

Thank you. I do tire of overblown misinterpretations fueled by sheer supposedly unequivocal pessimism. It's the old "Anno just wants to troll"-tier argument rather than a desire to make meaningful and- get this -at times, even fun , art. Of course, there was a base to the disillusionme...

Wankery incoming: Star Trek Into Darkness Where do I start... how about with a bold statement? One of the best sci-fi space opera adventures ever put to the big screen, really I can only think of a bare few to match it or even roam within the same league-- Wall-E and the first Star Trek Abrams film....

A song that reminds me of Shinji in particular is ' No Sunlight ' by Death Cab for Cutie; a song about the death of childish optimism. Of course, this hit Shinji at a much more immediate time, but I believe it still resonates. Lyrics: When I was young, lying in the grass I felt so safe in a ...

Tried both, for a typical viewing experience I prefer the English Dub. There were certain liberties taken however that bugged me before I had them pointed out for me (in the commentary) that had annoyed me-- namely the added 'sludge splat' sound effect played when the JSSDF officer i...

I like how he pronounces 'SEELE'. Makes me want to rescore the Instrumentality initiation scene with Kiss From A Rose. Anyways, I believe Valkyrie von Thanatos sums up a similar viewpoint to mine on the integrity of Fold's argument. Fold, though he has some well thought out insight into ...

Sixteen then, nineteen now, don't see how it's that much of a stretch. Though the haircut definitely has something to do with that... sorta boyish.

Just saw it two days ago. I absolutely adored it. I should have expected it, really, even after the fan reactions-- I almost didn't see it in theaters because of that. It would have been a mistake I'd end up regretting. I had tremendous amounts of fun watching it, the dialogue was sharp, sna...
