Re: The Tree of Life Significance

And given the time period, when Heaven's Gate was around the corner, to say nothing of the cult behind the Tokyo subway attacks...It's rather uncanny in a creepy sort of way...What I meant though was that the term "god" here is mostly just placeholder for "super powerful thing humans ...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance

Therein lies the beauty of NGE with all of its crypto-religious symbolism and motifs - It's an alien invasion/origins of life story involving beings with sufficiently advanced tech that it seems like magic by human comprehension. This coupled with a pseudo-religious cult, a crap ton of psychology, a...

Re: The Tree of Life Significance

This discussion on symbols and their implicit meaning(s) kind of reminds me of this old conversation regarding how things are named in Evangelion: https://forum.evageeks.org/thread/17559/The-Naming-Conventions-in-Evangelion/ It would seem that NGE is so "meta" that not only did Adam and Li...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

I saw Nosferatu on Halloween night... Being on a big screen with lively, tinted, restored footage + a live band/orchestra for the music + sound effects made it quite the more spectacular experience than I ever recalled in the past...I enjoyed it quite a bit, which is funny because Nosferatu is essen...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

I recently re-watched Alien: Covenant . The third time around, and first outside of a theater, it was actually pretty good. I think people give the movie WAAAAY too much hell for petty things...I think the characters are all passable enough and I think the narrative thread works in its own way and d...

Re: Did Ireul have a core?

I thought it was similar to Lilith and the human race - a colony of One as many. Humans too each have AT Fields...So there could be an answer there. Or it could be the opposite, where Iruel is like the alien from The Thing where it's a collective that can also splinter off into individual, autonomou...

Re: Was Yui nearly as bad as Gendo?

I honestly think it's best to avoid pigeonholing the characters wherever possible and just not try to force them into schemes like this arbitrarily. You're probably right..But it does still strike me that Shinji just seemed like Yui's plot coupon as far getting the things she wants...Of course, ass...

Re: An Observation on the Evas

(QUICK SIDE NOTE: I am still strictly speaking about mechanics in NGE, not The Rebuild films...No offense to anyone who does want to talk about them, I'm just waiting for Final before I make an assertions/theories on the movies) Interesting to note that the digitized personalities of the dummy plugs...

Re: Was Yui nearly as bad as Gendo?

I feel like Yui is the "scientist" aspect of the "three faces of mother" whereas Rei (via her soul within Eva 00) is "woman" and Kyoko is "mother." Think about it symbolically...Like the Biblical Eve, Yui was the "first" to go taste the fruit (CE) an...

Re: First half or Second half of EoE: Which was better in your opinion?

I would say that the second half is better...Only because it's "last" last episode of NGE - the surreal imagery, the total destruction of the psyche and the deeper insight into human nature are far more interesting than the exquisite sights and sounds of brutal violence in the first half (...

Re: An Observation on the Evas

Treat someone less than human? Don't be surprised when you've unleashed a beast. . Of all the various concepts linked to Eva - I NEVER once made the connection to dehumanization...That seems so glaringly obvious now...Especially with the way the Angels are "alien-ized" in order to make it...

Re: An Observation on the Evas

Hey thanks for giving the feedback. That's a really interesting way of looking at things I suppose...Like what I said, your point of view also lends a kind of parallel to the "Three Face of Mother" concept used for the Magi, but I digress. While that parallel is interesting, I think my mod...

An Observation on the Evas

As usual, my thoughts are strictly on how the Evas work/what they are based on NGE (I simply don't have enough data about the Rebuilds to make any kind of assertions). Anyway, here it goes: So, I have this thought in experiment in mind regarding the nature of the Eva's (namely Units 01 and 02) and i...

Re: Last Movie You Watched

I rewatched SW: TLJ. People should reeeeaaalllly stop hating it on it already...sheesh...I mean, the very vocal group who calls Rey a "Mary Sue" don't seem to have a general grasp of literary tropes except for this that keep parroting over and over again..It's getting exhausting. But, let'...

Rei - "Copy of A" by Nine Inch Nails

Ritsuko - "Speed of Pain" by Marilyn Manson

Misato - "My Lady Dominate" by William Control

I'll think up more later...

Mother! Every Eva fan should see it at least once. Granted, you don't watch a movie like this as much as you experience it. Btw, Chuckman, with regard to your avatar, I have always loved that Bacon painting. :)
