Re: 1001 Animated Films To Check Out (A Community Project)

If looking for things done really differently )for the time) I would have thought Eva24 with the huely long pause.

Also the first episode of Texhnolyze with no word spoken for 14 minutes, as I recall.

Re: Should Asuka die in the final film?

... the manga adaption by sadamoto, and since it's more closer to the original series, it did give me some insight on what EOE would be like despite it's twists. It's very far from the same experience, though; and the ending is entirely different. You really do need to watch it at this stage. Yes, ...

Re: Musical Prodigies, Show Yourselves!

Before my retirement I had barely played the piano for over fifteen years, and not much for the five years before that. Over such a time, at my age, one really does lose most of the facility one might have had. Since retirement a year ago I have been working very regularly at trying to get some keyb...

London Road No, I've never seen anything quite like it. The film tells the story of the road in the town of Ipswich in Suffolk in which a recent serial killer lived - the reactions of the residents and how they coped with what was going on. The words are taken from interviews with the residents, an...

Re: 1001 Animated Films To Check Out (A Community Project)

It may be that the idea is that only amounts of animation similar to a feature film (sit down and watch of an evening) are acceptable. This would make the whole of FLCL or War in the Pocket acceptable, but not any longer shows. The solution is probably to admit that these are different media by thei...

I would say rather that UK attitudes are following US ones, but in this area are still considerably behind.

Re: 1001 Animated Films To Check Out (A Community Project)

I've decided to include TV episodes into the list. However, like with the animated shorts, only five for every fifty will be included in the final list in order to prevent the possibility of overcrowding (and that's the maximum, whereas the reality will only have one or two episodes per show being ...

Fantasia (1940), various directors Awesome concept, stunning animation. No way this can't be on the list. It bears mentioning that there is a successor/remake: Fantasia 2000 (1999, various directors, 75min). There is a remake of The Sorcerer's Apprentice using the original soundtrack, but the rest ...

Eight-year-old links are often broken; and the provider hasn't been on the forum for six years, so you're unlikely to get an answer.

I remember when a rabbit (a wild one in the countryside) saw off our dog (as a nearly grown puppy) simply by staring her out - they were pretty much nose to nose; border collies can be real wimps!

I looked at my shelves and realised some more of my favourites were missing: Voices of a Distant Star (Makoto Shinkai, 2002, 30min). A beautiful story of love at a distance, which acknowledges relativistic time dilation; a true gem. Time of Eve: The Movie (Yasuhiro Yoshiura, 2008-2010, 106min). This...

Giovanni's Island - a recent lovely film about the Russian/Japanese front in WWII - it makes many references to Night on the Galactic Railroad (and BTW, another show that does is Mawaru Penguindrum ). A film you may well not find mentioned elsewhere is Gauche the Cellist , directed in 1982 by Isao ...

Re: Official "What should I watch next?" thread

I second that as a recommendation, though I don't see much similarity with FLCL myself. Don't bother with the ONAs, nor with episode 0, as these are an almost incomprehensible precis of the story, issued before the full series was animated.
