Re: Evangelion's site and Facebook/Twitter covers updated with new images - First teases of Shin Eva

Both the "English" slogan and the font used for it I find independently offputting. At least on the poster I can ignore them and look at the picture, but on a T-shirt? No way!

Re: News [NO POLITICS]

The principle behind cancelling net neutrality is that ISPs will be able to charge content providers to give them some preference in bandwidth. The likelihood would be that a few large entertainment corporations would end up with slightly improved access (only slightly, because if they all pay for i...

Re: Introduction, Toxicity of AsuShin and other things

You clearly have little faith in the resilience of humans. Sure, people vary in that capacity; but we're talking of kids in their mid-teens - they pretty likely have plenty of possibility to move on.

Re: Introduction, Toxicity of AsuShin and other things

If we use your logic, anything is justifiable, isn’t it? Even Holocaust or genocides. Are you seriously comparing masturbation by a 14yo boy with genocide or the Holocaust? To my mind this is a fine example of how people can lose their sense of perspective when discussing this show. There shouldn't...

Re: Introduction, Toxicity of AsuShin and other things

How many of you folk are the same now as you were when you were fourteen? Do you wish to have your present place in society judged according to people's knowledge of your fourteen-year-old self?

'Cos that's what you're all a-doin' to these poor children.

Re: What would Evangelion be without Shinji?

Shinji is probably, without a doubt, the most unpopular character of the show, and possibly of all anime. Not to mention the most hated. For a start, you seem unclear in your own mind: "probably" and "without a doubt" are nicely contradictory! Also there are characters that peop...

That's useful to know, thanks. What I'd better do is add redirections so that the surviving old URLs are redirected to the correct canonical one.

Forum cookies shouldn't be seen as third-party, but it's worth trying changing that setting for diagnostic purposes.

Are you going to exactly: "https://forum.evageeks.org" ? The site has had variants of this which could now fail in this way.

A little research (well a fair bit, actually) tells me that (as Monk said, I realise) phpBB only uses session IDs when it fails to set cookies. I guess you need to check your browser settings carefully. My Chrome test browser has three cookies for this forum. I can't think of any other reason for th...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

if it is actually some Gaelic phrase, and not a coinage for the series, guessing the actual spelling will be a fun game I found this: 'In the English adaptation, Chise is referred to as a "sleigh beggy" instead of a "surei bega". This in itself is a slight Cultural Translation, ...

Yes? As I recall he has far more character in the original, which since you ask I presume (to my surprise) you haven't seen.

Or is it just the one?

A second one spoke in a recent episode.

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent

The narrative purpose of a reboot is to replace an original work of art, hence it should be compared to the work it's replacing. Or maybe it's meant to stand alongside it, not replace it - in which case you're still free to compare them and have your own opinion about which you prefer. But remember...

Re: Rebuild is shallow tangent

When you make a story which is retelling a story that's already been told, that story you're making is going to be compared to the original one. And when the comparison shows that the stories are not as similar as you initially thought, then making a big deal of it at that level starts to look misc...

Strangling - restricting the throat - could also be seen as a direct way to prevent that nickname being uttered.
