Re: Why people hate this show nowadays?

It's not hard to see Eva with English sub/dub, but it involves getting second-hand or bootleg copies at somewhat inflated cost, or illegal downloading. In Europe, the Italian version is also out of print, as is the German (which included English, curiously). But you can buy the French release of the...

So in Q Nerv are the good guys? Or does the fact that Shinji goes his own way in the end make him self-employed, and himself the good guy in spite of what he's doing?

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

Yes, actually; I've dipped into Eureka SeveN various times, but not gone through from end to end as I am now (last episode in a few minutes!). After the end I will watch the short series of stills showing life a year later, which I think came from a pachinko game but was also broadcast, and the alte...

That gives you several more years here (if you wait until after the US release of the last film on disk, for instance). :)

Re: Controversial Anime Opinions

Visual Arts Key/P. A. Works totally sucks at making anime. Their only one gimmick is that “sad girls with big eyes” trope and it’s mostly implemented uncomfortably close to chauvinistic tendencies. Hang on, Uchōten Kazoku ( The Eccentric Family ) is also P. A. Works, and really doesn't fit your des...

Re: First look at Unit 08 and Mari from the theatrical teaser for 3.0+1.0

For all intents and purposes, Wille IS the Jet Alone of the Rebuilds in that it’s the only rival organization who has the crew and gusto to rival Nerv. But the parallel doesn't go very far; Jet Alone was shown up as an absurdity in a single early episode, whereas Wille is clearly a major player in ...

Re: Why do some people not want to talk about 3.0/Q before the last movie comes out?

Some people find that Q makes them so miserable, and so uncertain of how Shinji's situation can be resolved, that they don't want anything more to do with it until they know that there is a resolution. These people have found the delayed appearance of the last film especially difficult to cope with.

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

Redline really is a visual treat, for sure, though I found the story didn't much interest me (not saying anything against it, though).

I'm please to note that in rewatching Eureka SeveN I'm picking up details I missed first time through. Also a general reminder to myself that it really is good.

Anno is very clear that it is not for him to give you an answer, though. In the end, the best lessons are those you are able to learn for yourself; Evengelion may offer a pointer and a hint as to a direction you might benefit from looking in.

Re: Is it normal to be traumatized by Evangelion?

You are not alone, though the strength of people's reactions depends a lot on their life circumstances. The important thing is to realise that the endings (both the series and the End of Evangelion film) are , even if it's not fully spelt out, optimistic . Shinji has discovered in the end that he ca...

Lead off roofs is a common one. In this country, typically off churches, but I have a friend who had lead flashing stolen from his new conservatory.

There's certainly been a case where signalling cables alongside a railway track was stolen for the copper - that created havoc, as you might expect!

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

Re My Hero Academia . What's happening here is that in order to get to the end of this cour without starting on the next big (and long) villain arc, they are having to pad out the licence tests. This week's episode was almost entirely not from the manga but anime-original filling. In the manga the p...

Re: An Observation on the Evas

Frankly, I never bought that berserk mode was the Evas' true natures coming out, or that dummy plugs actually exterted any control other than initiating it. There's a far simpler explanation that also ties in much better with the themes of the series. Do you mean that the Eva is simply reflecting t...

Re: Official Happy Birthday Thread

Thanks for the greetings, folks - it was a good day. By the end of it I'd had a good meal, and acquired a new tablet (Huawei M5, replacing my old Google Nexus 7 which can't play H265) and a couple of books by Murakami.

Back to a "real" Shinji. This is from Shinji's nightmare while trapped within Leliel in episode 16; the infant Shinji speaks to the dreaming Shinji in an adult voice, saying "It was yourself you ran away from". https://cassland.org/images/EG/Avis/Shinji-Leliel_125.jpg https://cas...

Shin can mean new, I understand. So either it's a new movie to complete the series, or it will finally take the story to a new resolution. Take your pick.

Re: Shin Eva - Official Social Media

Given how 2.22 ended, and indeed what happened in 3.33, it seems very strange to say that things are the same as in the series. I mean, by the end of 3.33, we have had an interrupted third impact, some other kind of third impact, and an interrupted fourth impact. None of these have happened before t...

Re: Everything is Rockin'! [RML Thread 4]

So one of my great grandchildren had a fifth birthday party; it turned out to be the biggest family occasion for quite some years. Family members present were two great grandchildren, four grandchildren (and one boyfriend), two children (and spouses), ex-wife (and spouse), my wife and me. But enough...
