Probably just coincidental. No effort was made to maintain the similarities in the Rebuild of Evangelion movies.

Yes. I view the Rebuild of Evangelion as a different entity from the original series - seeing what plot elements they changed with Asuka and Rei - and all sorts of other crap that seemed to be thrown into the mix. With so many things changed, I would much prefer to see an entirely other ending to th...

EVA 02 being torn apart by harpies. But that's more or less just due to my fondness of Asuka.

Well, Asuka takes the cake, but many of the angel deaths were quite gruesome as well. When Unit 01 goes berserk, it's a bad day to be an angel.

Absolutely nothing - it came on television randomly several years ago but the first two episodes were intriguing enough that I watched it after finding it again on Wikipedia.

A few friends of mine have see it, but I don't think as many of them tried to analyze it deeply as I did.

I find it interesting that Kaworu and Rei are of about the same being, yet Kaworu manages to manifest a much higher synchronization ratio.

I remember seeing the giant crashed diamond angel several episodes after it was destroyed, so I assume they don't really make an effort to. Most angels blow up anyways.

I'm finding some newfound respect for the ending as it doesn't cater to the audience and throws the audience's expectations out the window. I have to admire Anno's boldness here - it's not about pleasing the fans, the casual watchers. It's about creating art and breaks the mo...

Oh, I don't know; I think they make a lot of their own problems, personally (Asuka in particular). But yes, barring giant robots and such they'd be no worse off than any other screwed up kid. There's also a fair point in there of how traumatic piloting an EVA would be. Because i...

Episodes 25 and 26 are some of the best parts of the series, btw. Also, Given some parts of your posts (such as your complete disinterest in the instrumentality stuff), I wondered if you might actually prefer the new movies, but then I remembered this: So actually, if I were to guess, you&#...

Re: My Initial Thoughts after finishing the series

I don't know that I'd say they won no matter the ending . . . Note that, no matter his mindset at the time, there wasn't a damn thing he could do about it. The MPEs were playing with her, and Yui held all the cards in any event. What Shinji wanted never really entered into it. Well, fro...

Re: My Initial Thoughts after finishing the series

Unlike some posters in this thread, I watched Evangelion as a full adult (even back in 90s when the TV series was first aired). I never suffered any mental condition and I lived a fine but eventless teenager life. I do not think I can really identify the mental problems the characters face ...

Thanks for the replies - honestly, I think my disappointment at the ending is more or less a kneejerk reaction for some naive hope for some happier ending. The motives behind the Instrumentality Project makes more sense when explained properly (or explained at all in my case). and Evangelion...

Re: My Initial Thoughts after finishing the series

No, they don't. The best they manage is good coping mechanisms, and these aren't well-developed in 14-year-olds. When they have to kill people close to them those coping mechanisms go out the window. Oh, I had forgotten about Kaworu. That explains Shinji's state at the end a little bit ...

Re: My Initial Thoughts after finishing the series

They were the deconstruction of Evangelion itself, some people say; personally I like them, they're quite useful to better understand the involved characters, the conclusion is weird and unexpected but I like it as well. Wrong choice, the Instrumentality is the core of that movie, it's actu...

My Initial Thoughts after finishing the series

Spoilers ahead, obviously. The first time I watched Evangelion was when I was very young, maybe five or six years old. As I remember it, I watched the first two episodes offhandedly during some cartoon network special and thought it was intriguing and refreshing. However, I never caught the name of ...

Hi. I just watched NGE in about five days. I actually remeber watching an epsiode when I was about five (the anime came out when I was two) and arbitrarily stumbled upon it about a year or two ago(epic deja vu). I didn't finish it then but I decided to recently and enjoyed most o...
