Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

I read that as She Won't Get Far on Foot and assumed it was some kind of neo-grindhouse horror.

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

I saw the Ready Player One trailer before Black Panther last night and I'm very excited for this movie. I don't care if it's good or it follows a by the numbers hero's journy story, I want to see a big battle with hordes of pop culture and video game characters.

It's not like dickening MPEs takes a lot of work. They've been cocky characters since the very beginning.

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

SPOILER: Show
The movie is an essay on why the "dark" version of Batman etc. evinces weakness, not power.

Even though the movie ends with a duel, the ending is ultimately about a superhero who wins without fighting. Or at least does something about his signature issue without fighting.

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

They took the "Marvel origin movie" formula of "Hero has badass moments, has a big fight, loses their powers, has to get them back in a moment of personal crisis, and fights a guy with the same suit/powers" and made it really fresh and well executed. Of all the 'first' Marvel mov...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I saw Black Panther this afternoon. It's a strong drama that says something about real world issues and takes some risks to do so, and a great action movie. The script is really tight and the direction and pacing are excellent. Marvel is really stepping up their game between Ragnarok , this movie, a...

If you think about it, Superman should be a lot like Mister Rogers, so there you go.

Last night a cosmic spacefaring whale-like spirit came to me in a dream and said DC should reboot the DCCU with Tom Hanks portraying Superman.

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Warner Brothers is treating this like a bubble, that's why the movies they're making suck. Everything reeks of joyless, unplanned paint by numbers corporate thinking. They don't know how this kind of storytelling works and they don't care to learn or find someone who does to head the project, so the...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

If you're looking for an ongoing series without retcons, stay away from the X-Men, home of Portals to the Punch Dimension and guy a who is pretending to be Magneto pretending to be himself. Frankly I think the X-Men are a model for how to handle continuity. The bad X movies didn't stop them from mak...

Re: DISNEY buys FOX

If they start really blurring the lines between theatrical releases and television in terms of production value and casting, that's pretty much the end of movie theaters.

That may not give them the supremacy you expect.

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

His likability is why he'd be perfect for it. Lobo needs to be a frat boy that you kind of like until you realize he casually commits genocide. Isn't he basically a parody of 90's badass comics?

Hyper-savages wouldn't fit with the Howard ethos at all. Howard didn't see 'savages' or barbarians as inferior or unevolved, he saw them as purer than and superior to effete civilized moderns. The archvillains of the lost Hyborian age were skinny civilized sorcerers.

The only problem I see is that the Rock can't play Lobo if he's already playing someone else.

I'm not going to gin myself up to hate a movie I haven't seen.

Unless Tarantino makes it. Schwing.
