Re: Last Movie You Watched

I haven't seen it yet- it's hard to find a showing around here; I have to go Thursday night and catch it before it's bumped out so literally every screen at the only multiplex where it's showing can play The Last Jedi, which I can't in turn see until late Friday because all of those shows are sold o...

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

I will say the same thing about He-Man I keep saying about Transformers. If the movie isn't absurd it would be an insult to the source material. The more recent He-Man revival series was pretty good but the original He-Man cartoon is aggressively terrible on a level that makes Generation One transfo...

Re: The End Times?

Net Neutrality was a formalized doctrine for two years but the “common carrier” aspect of the Internet was assumed prior to that, and several litigations over throttling and blocking of services (an ISP trying to block VOIP to force people to use their own, for example) have consistently been decide...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I’m excited to see Spider-Gwen on screen. I hope that Marvel again raises the bar, responding to the inevitable quitting or aging out of stars with the idea of a multiverse.

Re: Jurassic World

The chemical used to make gasoline repellant to humans would work for that. That’s not the dumb part.

The dumb part is that the animal is clearly killing for pleasure and is intelligent enough to have object permanence. It wouldn’t need to find him, it should know where he went.

Re: [Literature] Currently Reading (discussion)

The similarities to Forbidden Planet don’t end with that one element, I think. Sphere is almost like Crichton decided the backstory of that movie made a better story than the movie itself and decided to write it.

It’d be hilarious if he’s testifying at the lawsuit over the events of the last film.

Anyway, fifty bucks says they kill the Rex in this one.

Re: Jurassic World

That interesting because there's one in the original Jurassic Park map lay out but its clearly been moved for the Jurassic World story line. https://i0.wp.com/media2.slashfilm.com/slashfilm/wp/wp-content/images/ZZ272663D2.jpg Ah. Volcanoes are only (tangentially) related to the plot in one of the b...

Re: [Literature] Currently Reading (discussion)

Currently re-reading through Michael Crichton's works. I had occasion to be on a plane and picked up Jurassic Park and the Lost World, and gobbled up Sphere the night I got back from my trip. I find Sphere is the deepest and most complex of his books and is much more subtle and difficult to pick apa...

Re: Jurassic World

The island in the Lost World is volcanic. I'm pretty sure Nublar is not, but the movies make up whatever they need anyway.

Also, here is a list of things that ISPs have tried to do that would be permissible without a Net Neutrality doctrine. Several of them are illustrative of how ISPs could, individually or by collusion, stifle technological growth by throttling or blocking traffic. https://www.reddit.com/r/KeepOurNetF...

Actually a franchise entry (and like, no 14 or whatever) would be the perfect grand ending statement on his body of work. Taking my personal feelings about him and his disgusting chin out of the equation, he's built an entire career out of a combination of homage to bad movies combined with a willin...

Re: Jurassic World

The best possible thing for Jurassic Park is a total reboot, preferably as a high budget television series without content limitations. There is no talent or interest in film anymore outside of short episodic stories and visual poems and there is a huge amount of depth in Crichton's books that is ei...

Re: Net Neutrality Vote on Dec 13th! (#SaveNetNeutrality) Bl

Business-class internet/dedicated lines is already a feature companies sell, has been for years. It generates innovation the same way commercial-grade computer hardware does. Furthermore, the ISPs aren't without their own pressures to keep them honest; any high-handedness will just incentivize comp...
