Re: Last Movie You Watched

I watched it.

Go read the book, if you haven't yet. The movie doesn't spoil anything.

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

Trailer for David Gordon Green's Halloween is here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ek1ePFp-nBI Looking good. Not seeing anything I take issue with. Shot of the massive asylum field set up so the patients can roam is nicely surreal. Fan of Will Patton, happy he is getting work. Daniel McBride is a...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

If I was in a high level meeting with the Disney execs, I'd put it to them like this: Lucasfilm didn't become a brand worth paying $4 billion to acquire because they were making movies constantly and raking in steady receipts. It became a brand worth $4 billion by marketing the ever loving shit out ...

Re: [Film] The Trailers & Upcoming Films Thread

1. Not Michael Bay (I still defend him and I actually liked The Last Knight on its own merits, not ironically, but still...) so points for that, and 2. F-15 Starcream with G1 colors! I'm hoping it's a hard reboot that looks like a soft reboot, as befits the source material: a cartoon in which Megatr...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

That's a very valid way of looking at it. Not to go back to the Snyder well too much, but he and Abrams both have this tendency to make movies that are more like trailers than actual stories. All edging with no payoff. TFA at least had an emotional payoff with Rey taking up the lightsaber, but it wa...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

TLJ is a film of ambition that didn't come together. The script moves in too many directions at once and it lacks focus. I think, also, that many of these big blockbusters with big casts suffer from this need they have to keep moving from character to character and plot to plot and back again, cycli...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

If they're smart they'll use the last of the Episode films to set the stage for an open universe they can write new stories in.

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

It's odd how the "____ A Star Wars Story" movies have better pacing than the actual Episode VII and VIII. The main movies are overstuffed, like they have too many ideas and want to rush them out. I liked what they did with Luke and Rey/Kylo, even, but Solo is a better film than TLJ. In fac...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

SPOILER: Show
Rose wasn't the problem per se, the random Casino Royale aside was.

They structure the story around a slow speed rolling battle and kept killing the tension.

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

I'm spoilering this relating to Solo since that's the reason we're talking about this character. As great as Christopher Lee is, he added nothing to the prequels and the whole Darth Tyrannus thing severely overcomplicated the whole Sith thing. Maul should have been the face of the Sith throughout, r...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

I still don't know how they expect any Indy adventure top top finding the Holy Grail. The archetypal ultimate quest. Still I'm disappointed that Crystal Skull wasn't Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men from Mars. It'd be neat, too, if they did the Indy vs Soviets idea justice and made the movie about s...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

I saw it- it really isn't that bad. It's a good thieves screwing over thieves heist film in space. The weakest parts, by far, are all the references to the OT/prequels, and the main character being an established player in another story. They need to cut the apron strings and start doing original SW...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

I think the failing of that design and the '98 design was trying to make Godzilla look too much like a natural animal. He should look a little weird. Part of what I think made the '14 version work was that the designed him as a 400 foot tall creature rather than trying to scale up a natural animal l...

Re: Fallout

My favorite part of Fallout 4 was the settlement building and side quests. The main quest sucks.

Edit: I feel the need to point out that the game needs a metric fuckton of mods to make the settlement part actually worthwhile. It's so basic on its own...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

The only complaint I share about *The Last Jedi* is that it was obvious the script writers felt they needed to give ever cast member something to do, like everyone needed equal time, so the movie has a bizarre aside. It needed to be tailored more to the slow chase concept, or the slow chase concept ...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!

Does Emmerich get enough praise to be called overrated?

He's directed something like 13 movies since 1990 and only 3 of them are any good.

edit: IMDB says they're making another Independence Day Jesus Christ.

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

Huh. How about that. I haven't seen it yet but I'm looking forward to this. Is it still Ray Park or has someone else been cast? This may sound odd, but Maul is such a blank slate that I'm happy to see them take him up. Okay, he's not 'original' in the strictest terms but I...
