Re: [Film] James Cameron's Avatar

That theme park looks existentially horrifying. "Let's turn Native Americans into a theme park, but use a bastardized version with blue aliens." I looked at the corporate website for it, and it's just so fucking bizarre. The movie lazily copying Dances with Wolves because Cameron was too b...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

^ The true meaning of The Hobbot Trilogy is “Make sure you let a Hollywood studio meddle in the governmental affairs of a sovereign nation so that way freelance negotiations can be legally undercut by the studio to ensure maximum profit for a foreign company.” “If you don’t want a love triangle for...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

If you can’t find meaning in a film the problem isn’t the film, unless that film is part of the Hobbit Trilogy. I’m giving everyone a pass on that one.

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I have to agree on Ultron . Actually, you named the only three Marvel movies I've never felt a need to watch a second time. Which is funny, because Thor 2 and Iron Man 2 have my favorite sight gag (Thor hanging Mjolnir on a coat hook) and Iron Man suit up sequence of all the movies. Ultron just anno...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I thought the humor elevates Thor above "bland Superman with a hammer" and Ragnarok is clearly the best Thor movie. The first two are... limp. They have no personality. The other solo hero franchises all have some kind of a feel to them, though how prominent it is varies by degree. Thor, u...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Ending fell flat for me though. Actually it REALLY annoyed because I know none of the “consequences” from the ending are going to stick. Like CIVIL WAR this is going to be another case where people talk about how “serious this Marvel movie is” and all the “consequences” put in place will be undone ...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I agree about his motivation. I went back an read the original Infinity Gauntlet comic and... frankly, it's terrible, even by standards of the day. Maybe I'd need more context from Thanos backstory and the lead up to it to "get it" but as a standalone story it's not very good at all and th...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Infinity War . Thanos was a cool villain; got a good dose of the Guardians, though I do wish the joking around was dialed back a little; action scenes where I could see what was going on were good (I hate nighttime action scenes); I had to chuckle at the ending. "Wow, they really went there!&q...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I just got back from Infinity War. They did it. The crazy sons of bitches, they did it. A true epic of scale and scope not seen in Hollywood for a long time. Easily dethrones any of the other entries for best Marvel movie, and the best post-credits scene too. Every member of the cast absolutely kill...

Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

Somebody at Disney should lay down a directive that while Darth Vader may appear again in a story of the appropriate era, he can never speak in any future films. No jokes, no threats, nothing. His story has been fully explored. There's so much to do with Star Wars, they don't need to keep going back...

I need a break from this. I don't know when I'll be back, maybe not until when/if Final/3.0+1.0 comes out. I will occasionally log in to check PMs but if you want to talk to me while I'm gone I suggest sending me PM to request my email address.

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

Marvel Comics and DC Comics only exist because of the market value of their IP. Comic book fans alone aren't enough to keep the lights on a the big two. You know why Marvel's intellectual property was a mess, cut up between multiple studios and distributors to the point that it took Disney becoming ...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2

I think, actually, that the smartest thing that WB could do with the DC Universe is give up on movies entirely and focus on developing big budget, premium channel prestige style television shows for their characters with self contained story arcs and big name acting, directing, and writing talent. T...

They need to dump the Flashpoint idea, make a movie nothing like the ensemble films, and put Flash up against Grodd. Also maybe King Shark. Does he have any other animal themed villains that could form a super team?

http://collider.com/the-flash-movie-directors-john-francis-daley-jonathan-goldstein/ Flash movie has new directors. Weirdly, it seems like they're best known for writing the Horrible Bosses movies. Re: Star Wars Episode II - A New Thread

I don’t need to sell anyone on hating them but what’s troubling, with the speed and complexity of these productions, is that these guys are bad at logistics. The reason the Dorne plotline in the show was such a disaster is that they insisted on filming at the Alhambra and the restrictions on the pro...

I’m curious about Wiig potentially landing a villain role. I don’t remember her in the Martian (as I don’t remember the Martian) and I haven’t seen Mother!

Re: FML general thread [8]

I'm now 30 years old. I never imagined myself being this old, and still can't. The worst part is that my biological prime is behind me, my body will now steadily lose its functionality over the course of many decades. And it's already happening. Over the past year and a half, I've lost my ability t...
