Re: NemZ Has Passed Away

I'm really saddened about this. I didn't know him too well, but his banners alone made me happy whenever I saw them. Not to mention all of his other contributions. RIP, Nemz. This was much too early for you to go. The saddest part is, that he's not here any more to witness how much we appreciated hi...

Re: E3 2017

Death Stranding update (kinda meh on this one, after TPP I'm not nearly as much of a Kojima fan as I used to be). I have never played a Kojima game, so I might be talking outta my ass... But from what I've heard, Konami was responsible for the problems with The Phantom Pain. So now with Sony treati...

After watching too many shows from Winter 2016, I'm still burned-out and haven't watched anything since I've finished those shows. It's nice to see that it's possible to recover, lol.

Re: News of Anime in Japan

Keijo was the first sports anime that didn't bore me. It was actually funny and thrilling and I liked the cast. One of the best series last year. Sad to not see a sequel.

I've watched the first season of MHA and enjoyed every aspect of it. But the pacing infuriated me. Everything seemed like it took twice as long as it should take. I've heard it has become worse in season two... So I don't think I'll watch it.

Re: Why is the diamond angel so cool?

The first two Angels preceding it are giant monsters are more representative of a the standard giant creature that attacks Tokyo, i.e. eyes, legs, arms, vaguely humanoid, etc. Then Ramiel shows up as some sort of ninth-grader's Geometry homework, singing a beautiful melody of destruction. It's radi...

Re: Blade Runner franchise

I have never seen the original Blade Runner. I tried, but then I saw that there's like 6 versions and no answer which one I should watch, so I kinda never did. From what I've seen from this trailer, I am in love with the visuals already. I don't know to what extend Ridley Scott's actually involved, ...

Re: Hideaki Anno talks on the phone (Love & Pop extra)

This video is an amazing gold nugget. I was not aware this existed - and then it's even subtitled! It tells its own cute little story, and while doing so confirms how I thought Anno might have thought about EoE. This is one of the rare occasions he talks about it after all. Anyways, thanks for shari...

Re: Shin Gojira (a.k.a. Godzilla Resurgence)

What do you think about the subtitles? Did your friends think it was a bit fast-paced? We actually only had a dubbed version available in my city. The dub was okay. But while the exposition-heavy dialogue is already stilted in the original, the fast pace in which they had to put proper nouns into t...

Re: Shin Gojira (a.k.a. Godzilla Resurgence)

So I've finally watched Godzilla in theaters. Despite it being a one-day special, the theatre was only about 1/5th full. I still like the film a lot, the interesting part were the reactions of my two friends, who have never seen an Anno movie. They were kind of underwhelmed immediately after it, but...

^ This spoiler contains my opinion about Makoto. Makoto is the biggest positive surprise in this game. She really is awesome. I thought she was going to be a bitchy bore - but I couldn't have been more wrong. So, what do you guys think, did they botch the translation ? I am not a native speaker,...

Sadly, yes. Capable 3D animators are in much higher regard in the work force, because they could technically work in other fields as well. (Like car design or something).

Re: Shin Gojira (a.k.a. Godzilla Resurgence)

On May 3rd, Shin Godzilla will FINALLY have a screening near me. It's German dubbed - I hope they don't fuck it up. On the plus side, I've managed to reel in some friends that way (who wouldn't wanna read subtitles). I'm really looking forward to seeing it :)

It's really weird how in this movie ScarJo plays the Motoko of the Oshii version, while supposedly being a completely different character.

Re: Official "What should I watch next?" thread

Kyousogiga is very much inspired by FLCL, but it doesn't feel like it. While FLCL is visually loaded, the story is simple. Kyousogiga on the othe hand, is visually even more ambitious, which makes it tiring to watch - but then there's also the problem, that the story is complicated and the subtitles...

Re: Controversial Anime Opinions

^ Ghost in the Shell boasts a few scenes, that are amazing. I'd even argue that no other film I know has a higher density of iconic and breathtaking scenes than Oshii's adaption of GitS. The problem is mostly what connects those scenes, but granted - there are far worse movies. Akira , for instance ...

Re: Official "What should I watch next?" thread

I want to add the newly released Dragon Dentist. While the story, plot and characters are much are nowhere as fascinating as FLCLs, and the animation is not nearly as experimental, it overall feels a lot like FLCL. Also, Diebuster is the closest thing to FLCL that was ever released, imho. But you mi...
