Re: Anime Detour 2016 /w Amanda Winn Lee

deserves every bit of personal strife that went on in her family's past. I am coming off as extremely bitter and for that I apologize, that's just my opinion of AWL and I don't think if I met her in person it would change. I too wish to be so petty that I wish personal suffering on someone for havi...

Re: How did Misato survive the second impact, shouldnt there be some anti AT-Field?

Did you miss the part where I said "But, let's leave the axial tilt bit aside -- gaffes show up every now and then, and it's not crucial to the plot anyway, so best to just sideline it and move on."? No but I refused to acknowledge it because it's retarded. You can't just elect to ignore ...

Re: How did Misato survive the second impact, shouldnt there be some anti AT-Field?

Correct. We have no reason to believe it was. White Moon, you say? That's 13.75 kilometers, who gives a shit? N2 mines cover that territory. I think it's far more likely that Adam's S2 specs match that of Sachiel's S2 than that Adam's are somehow capable of annihilating an entire continent (with al...

Re: Hollywood's "Ghost in the Shell"

There is no reason they couldn't have done that with GitS. Absolutely none. Except there is one HUGE reason. Licensing. The independent vanity project angle works for original IPs because it doesn't require the studio to really go out of their way for them. Del Toro made Pacific Rim not Evangelion/...

Re: Hollywood's "Ghost in the Shell"

Take Deadpool , for example. On paper, that shouldn't have worked. It was an R-rated superhero movie starring a proven failure at the box office, so if the system were all that was in control it never would have gotten the green light Deadpool was given a tiny budget (for it's scope and being a sup...

Re: Hollywood's "Ghost in the Shell"

That is spending priorities I cannot fathom. Well if they're telling the truth and it was meant for background people then it makes sense since most background crowds are now heavily augmented with CGI and it's cheaper to just grab 100 random extras then trying to get a specific group of people. As...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2015 to now

Haven't done reviews in forever, bunch of crap I'm watching/recently watched. Free!/Free! Eternal Summer Homosexual Fun Water Time ended up being a much better show than I anticipated. (It also managed to be even gayer than I anticipated which is saying something) It's definitely emotionally overwro...

Re: Evageeks is a story about repetition

The most memorable thing he did was order a large dragon dildo as some apology to Xard for insulting his waifu, heh. Bumping a month old thread to set the record straight. It wasn't an apology it had nothing to do with insulting Xard's waifu, it was simply because I foolishly joked that if someone ...

Re: Funimation: Evangelion 3.33 coming out February 2 2016

And the subtitles did any better? And for once, could you please focus on something positive That's not a translation error, that's just 3.0 being a bad movie. Translating 'falling in stature to' to 'falling in battle to' is a clear error. Now if it was missed it suggests the line is not very impor...

Spoilers 2015 Oh, so that's why she runs from Kylo Ren their first fight and gets captured, and fucks up and let's out the tentacle monsters in the ship! Wait, why is it okay for Luke to be an Ace pilot despite living on a farm his whole life? Why is it okay he can use the force after a 15 ...

Re: Star Wars

I dislike the term "Mary Sue." Like, a lot. Look, I understand that some people think that "X" female character is written poorly, and in the case of Rey in The Force Awakens, I would actually agree with you. But the term "Mary Sue" is literally meaningless when it's n...

There is blood in A New Hope when Obi Wan cuts the guy's arm off in the bar. There is blood in quite a few places in Empire. I can't recall any blood in RoTJ.

Re: Star Wars

The storm troopers and tie pilots in this are competent? These are the same guys that couldn't take out two people running them on foot with 2 fighters and a squad of soldiers. Let the Millennium Falcon take of after bombing their previous ship before they could get to it. Lost to a ship with a...

Re: Star Wars

They didn't though. Star Wars went full derivative. It was the archetypal hero's journey, going by the numbers from start to finish, and there was nothing original in it at all. We think it's great now because we've been stuck with it for 38 years, but at the time it was pretty damn dull. ESB was f...

Re: Star Wars

By focused on the sun going out, I meant the symbolism for the light going out of Ren. Not a focus on the functionality of the weapon in a utilitarian sense. But the internalization of the characters. And as for any telegraphing of Han dying, I knew he was going to before going into the movie. I th...

That's fair enough, I mean I don't expect us to agree on this. I don't expect most anyone to agree with me on this yet heh. We just have really different reads on some of the scenes and how they should have or could have played out. Like I said I'm not prepared for a full defense of my position yet...

Re: Star Wars

But about that derivative, I have to ask myself 'is the remake surpassing the original on these fronts' and on most of them, not all, I kind of think it does. Definitely not the destruction of the Starkiller vs the fight against the first Death Star at the end but most parts yeah. I don't agree wit...

to see what else can be done and what other ideas are out there and so forth. I would agree with you if the second half didn't completely squander that wonderful new direction by going full derivative. There was a lot of new fun direction in this that was promptly shoved aside to go down the expect...

Re: Star Wars

Saw it tonight. Loved the first half, completely hated the 2nd half to the point of basically ruining the film for me. The good: Good characters. Poe, Finn, Rey, Han, New R2, Chewie. All were great fun. I could watch an entire buddy cop movie about Finn and Poe. Ren (before the final battle)...
