Re: Superhero Films & TV

Also, for "complex stuff", I would match the content of Winter Soldier against anything DC's attempted, let alone accomplished. Same with Civil War, really. None of it's all that complex, but then again neither was anything in BvS.

To clarify, it uses SD Gundam's designs. SD Gundam is actually a separate show.

Re: Superhero Films & TV

As for the characters being divorced from The Source material? I noticed you didn't complain about Optimus Prime going from kind Robot Jesus to sociopathic gun nut in T4. Wow, moving the goalposts much? Optimus isn't Batman, dude. He isn't starring in any of the movies in question. How he was handl...

Re: Superhero Films & TV

^ Logan was serious and dark but it didn't try to comment on the freaking Patriot Act or use Wolverine as an allegory for the Bush Administration. The Dark Knight . . . the message behind it is kind of messed up. It glorifies a man who invades people's privacy and hacks into their social media so h...

Re: What anime are you watching right now? Summer 2016 to now

I seem to be a little out of line for not tolerating Scum's Wish . To me it is (like Game of Thrones ) a story about nasty people with no redeeming features. I can take bad things if they go along with hope ( EoE ) or tragedy (yes, School Days - though I realise this is another view in which I am o...

Re: Superhero Films & TV

Maybe so, but the point remains -- fans accepted Nolan's take on Batman and rejected Snyder's. Unless you're prepared to say Nolan's version wasn't dark/gritty/realistic/whatever your rationale for why they rejected Snyder's version doesn't hold up.

Re: Superhero Films & TV

And that ultimately is going to be the nail in their coffin. You have not seen the movie, and most likely never will, so it's impossible to take your arguments seriously here. Nobody bitched and moaned when Chris Nolan made Batman grimdark and " grounded in the real world" Aesthetics and ...

Re: Superhero Films & TV

That's what happens when you alter things in response to Fan backlash. Oh, put a sock in it. Fan backlash had nothing to do with the cruddiness of Cyborg's and Flash's costumes, and it has nothing to do with the look of the sets we see in the trailer. It's a basic issue with costume and set design,...

Re: Superhero Films & TV

The story and tone and such look seem okay, but the look of it all is just awful. The whole aesthetic is about as far from Justice League as you can get. Wonder Woman look promising, but this . . . I dunno.

Scum's Wish: This show is weird, man. It starts out with two sexually active teenagers in a phony relationship due to unrequited love on both ends. Seems straightforward enough, right? Well, it seems neither can leave well enough alone and both feel the need to hook up with as many people as possib...

I have to give them props for doing something different for a change. Not sure about the story; I've always been fond of the "he is not our friend, but he's not necessarily our enemy and he sure seems to hate those guys a whole bunch" take on the guy (Legendary's, to be sure, but also much...

Agreed. Shinji's domestic side is the healthiest aspect of his personality. As to personality disorders, my understanding is that they're somewhat out of fashion in the psychological community at the moment since people rarely fit into neat, tidy boxes. We go back and forth about whether someone has...

Re: [Poll] What episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion do you like and dislike?

I think there's a distinction to be made between "are these episodes important?" and "do you like these episodes?" I don't think any of us in the dislike camp would discount their importance to the show's narrative for even a moment.
