Re: Ghosts of Evangelion
Yeah, I know people like to read it in order, but that always seemed odd to me given how I developed as a writer at the time. I would think the shift in writing style would be jarring.

Re: Ghosts of Evangelion
Hey, thanks for doing this! I know the random order threw a lot of people off, so this should help new readers a lot.
No other fics to speak of. This is it. I had something to say and I said it, and that's it. I might do more chapters in this fic, though.

Re: Voltron: Legendary Defender
My capsule review: the first two seasons are some of the best television I’ve ever seen. Then someone got the nostalgia bug and it all went to hell.
YMMV, of course.

Re: The Taco Bell Effect
I think you're way off base, personally. There is no "Taco Bell effect" with these projects because they aren't marketed to anime fans -- they're actually marketed to fans of Avatar, since that show was wildly successful and proved that serious, story-based cartoons could be made in the we...

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2
The (lol) Suicide Squad wasn't going for "woke points", it was an answer to the smarmy chicken soup for the woke messaging in Marvel films like Captain America: The Winter Soldier where the superficially counter-cultural messages or critique of the military industrial complex always come ...

Re: Star Trek
Discovery season two is very, very good. Ethan Peck and Anson Mount completely transform the show, to the point where Mount's Christopher Pike is quite possibly the best Starfleet captain we've yet seen onscreen. It's worth tracking down.

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!
I don’t get this “next season” business. Didn’t Jet Jaguar destroy Godzilla and all of the red dust? How can there be a next season when the source of all the monsters is gone (and in a closed temporal loop, no less)? I know we got the teaser at the end, but that honestly seems like a setup for a c...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!
But in any event GvK was not an improvement in that regard by any means. Replacing a flawed human story with no human story is no remedy, particularly when the monster fights are lacking as well. I have to disagree, I thought the fights were pretty great and a huge improvement over KoTM No, the fig...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!
I dunno. Apart from Angry Dad I thought KotM had a pretty good storyline. If they'd backed away from him and given the supporting cast room to breathe I think it could have been rock solid. But in any event GvK was not an improvement in that regard by any means. Replacing a flawed human story with n...

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!
Yeah, more agreement from me here. The one bit I thought was amusing was the fact that Kong checked to see who was inside the vehicle that was shooting at him before squishing it. He was like, "What? That's annoying. Who's doing that?" <checks> "Little girl isn't in there....

Re: Superhero/Comic Based Films & Tv - Vol.2
I liked the trailer, particularly compared to the previous iteration of the material, but I agree King Shark was disappointing. I know the Poison Ivy rendition was probably too much to hope for, but I can’t help it — that’s my standard now.

Re: Pacific Rim
Given that nobody challenges Haley’s account of things, even after she’s drifted with them, it seems obvious the show is treating Haley’s account of things as a matter of fact rather than just her perspective on things.

Re: Godzilla & Kaiju General!
I’m with you, Freaky. To me this film was too light and too fast; I felt like it needed another hour or so to really develop it’s characters and ideas, along with the connective tissue needed to tie it to the other films. And, as you say, the principals needed weight behind them. These were humans f...

Re: Pacific Rim
The Black was pretty good, but the story needs to give Haley a break with all the guilt tripping. It places the blame for her friends' deaths squarely at her feet, while ignoring the fact that Copperhead had to be in the area for the noise she made to mean anything. If he was roaming around in the v...

Did you see the side view? His legs and tail are nice and beefy, but his torso is scrawny. The design looks weird to me.

Re: Shin Gojira (a.k.a. Godzilla Resurgence)
IMO it does a disservice to Shin Godzilla, since most of the decisions made in that film were sound. Like, failing to take out Godzilla early when doing so would kill civilians is not comparable to anything we saw last year, because the reality was always "act, and save lives, or do nothing and...
