I recently read the manga and while the film does not compare with its amazingness I nonetheless became more impressed with anime film as indirect result. They did superb job at condescending the essentials IMO and film works on its own, achievement in itself As a huge fan of the manga, I felt pret...

Just finished watching "Wild At Heart". I'm working through David Lynch's catalog, most of which I've never seen. Watched "Blue Velvet" last night, which I loved.

Blue Velvet - 8/10
Wild At Heart - 7.5/10

QFT. Again. The Rebuild movies just don't work as standalone films. The pacing is downright schizophrenic, and supporting characters and subplots from the original are tossed around yet never used because there isn't enough time. The only way to really appreciate the Rebuild films is to hav...

Sort of half-watching the 1964 movie 7 Faces of Dr. Lao and surfing the internet. Is Tony Randall's portrayal of a Chinese mystic really racist or am I just not paying enough attention?

Got 2.22 Blu-Ray in the mail today from Amazon. The orange peel is cracked off of the sleeve in about 10 places showing white cardboard underneath. Really cheep print quality. Wouldn't care except it's a birthday day present for my cousin and it looks really bad. Oh well. Cardboard sleeves n...

Somewhere in the world an ex-member of The Office (UK) is putting on some hairy Hobbit feet. Which reminds me, they must have spent a fortune on big rubber hobbit feet for LOTR, which the actors all hated wearing, and yet there's not one word in the original books to suggest the hobbits...

Does anyone else remember Henry Selick's Slow Bob in the Lower Dimensions ? I have a feeling it may have been on Liquid Television; it's definitely included on the Laserdisc version of The Nightmare Before Christmas . It was just a pilot; never made it to a series, but I think it might have...

Yeah, Dog-Boy was terrible. As was The Adventures of Thomas and Nardo, which had a really awful computer animated / paper cutout look. I also loved Bill Plympton's shorts, which are on some of the re-airings that I taped in the mid-90s, but weren't part of the original run. Also, Æon Flux wa...

Liquid Television

Who here is old enough to remember MTV's Liquid Television? That early 90s animation shorts showcase that gave birth to Æon Flux and Beavis and Butt-Head, and one or two of my recurring nightmares. I was 9 when it started, and I caught it from the very first episode, which aired about a month be...

I know it's nitpicking, but so far, Catwoman is not a character in The Dark Knight Rises. Only Selina Kyle. I think the fact that Nolan is making this distinction will prove to be important in the long run.

Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle. There is no mention of Catwoman. Suspicions are that Nolan is taking Catwoman back to her roots, and she will not be dressed in a catsuit, but will be a skilled jewel thief and will never be referred to as "Catwoman" in the movie. As for Bane, he...

Daren Aronofsky has said that Black Swan is about a woman trying to escape from a form of male-dominated oppression, and that the only way for her to do so is through death. In American Film Melodrama , Robert Lang describes melodrama as: "first a drama of identity. [...] The dominant ideology ...

You guys have to keep in mind that this film is based off a ballet based off a folk tale. One dimensional characters and obvious plots go hand-in-hand with both. As I said in a previous post, this film is not about fooling the audience with twists or being more complex than Inception. Ballet is best...

I've been thinking about Black Swan since I saw it. Thinking about it, but also just visualizing and hearing indelible moments from the film playing in my mind like the clips on the movie's official site. If I start dreaming that dark stuff then I'll need help. The way I've come to t...

Black Swan - 9.5/10

I can't give it a 10 because I need to see it again and allow all of it to really sink in. I only saw it about 16 hours ago, and I can't stop thinking about it.

Gorgeous and disturbing. This is my favorite Aronofsky film, hands down. I don't know how to write a review that does justice to this film. This is real horror.

He's even building models and a dolly rig for shots in The Empire Strikes Back. This guy is really serious. Maybe a little crazy. I think the most important thing he's done is color-correct the OT to restore the color to that of the original theatrical releases. Gone is the awful blue tint LFL added...

Anyone here heard of the Star Wars Revisited project? One guy in the UK has taken it upon himself to fix all the errors LFL forgot, and undo some of the most egregious changes to the special edition. Brilliant work. He released A New Hope in 2008, and ESB comes out in 2011. Here's his youtube channe...
