What did you think of My Blueberry Nights ? I thought I read some bad reviews for it at one point... but I actually really liked it and thought his form translated perfectly onto the U.S.A. Everything, the camerawork, the narration, the "plot", was all unmistakably him and it was really i...

Thanks to Bomby, I watched almost all of WKW's films outside of the two ( In the Mood for Love, 2046 ) I've seen: Days of Being Wild, Chungking Express, Ashes of Time, Fallen Angels, Happy Together, and My Blueberry Nights . CE is still my favorite after all of it, followed closely b...

Happy birthday, Oz. You've introduced me to countless amazing films, most recently After Life and, of course, Perfume, which has over 6000 plays on my ipod from just these last couple months. In other words, you are a great person.

Digital Love = Linear Motor Girl cannot unhear damnit. To be honest songs are too distinct musically to call Linear Motor Girl a rip off or copy by any means but the origin for the latter is clear after listening to that. Sampling can be confusing . I'm at a point now where "originality&qu...

I felt confident enough to start writing the first chapter of my EGF book this morning. I swear to god, I spent an hour on two paragraphs. (In my defense, though, they are very pretty paragraphs.) I'm taking my sweet ass time, and picking every word as carefully as possible. This is the...

I thought it was breathtaking. Especially the space/prehistoric bits. They were beautiful and moving with the masterful use of music. The music throughout the film was incredible. I took the entire first part of the film to be sort of like the Book of Job but read in an atheist way. The only part th...

Saw these threads for the longest time clicking through /b/ (quickly mind you) and assumed they were about Panty and Stocking just from the briefest appraisal of the art style. Also, one of the ponies has Stocking's exact color scheme.

Fair mistake, if you ask me.

Listened to a few of the Perfume songs Oz was raving about (and obsessively collecting). Then listened to a few more. Then more and more and more. Man, he wasn't kidding. It's insanely enjoyable stuff in every way. The girls are incredibly beautiful, their dance routines are fascinat...

^ First Bond film I ever saw. Also one of the earlier movies I remember seeing in theaters. Watched it with my dad. I was like, oh, so this is what Bond is... I can't believe I still remember this after seeing it once, but how retarded was the building was made out of ice? Also a Chinese guy bec...

Just finished Fire, Walk With Me last "night" at 5 A.M. after watching season 2 for the past two days. Best series + film I've seen since NGE + EoE . Only now am I reading about all the politics behind season 2 and how the move to reveal the murder ruined the show. Somehow, when I was ...

What isn't a platitude? Is there some point where a platitude becomes deep? Xard seems to be saying that film as a medium is incapable of depth or truth on some fundamental level. If depth is merely complexity in philosophical conceptions then I suppose it would be a lot harder for film to get a...

I suppose someone should define just what kind of philosophy we're talking about here, but as a whole philosophy really IS extremely broad, diverse, and almost universally accessible to all people. There is always a minimum philosophy to everything we say or do, no? I do think film has the capab...

I think I agree with Jimbo, so +1 there. This is Wikipedia's one-line definition of ontology, pretty much universally considered to be included within philosophy. ontology deals with questions concerning what entities exist or can be said to exist, and how such entities can be grouped, related w...

Zuh? I'm not head over heels in love with him, but I don't dislike him. It's a rather simple "formula" he uses to achieve the effect of "worldhood". Slow, disconnected narration. Slow, straining, building music. Minimal plot. Nothing meant to be too "deeeep"...

Hara-Kiri finally. Soooo excellent. Although I think Miike could do well in his remake to improve on the framing by cutting down on some of the back and forth a little. Towards the end the conversations got a little didactic, since the message was obvious through the visuals.
